will the SR still drop in just like it dose on the 1991+ models? or do i have to use the CA18.. if it isn't as easy what needs to be changed. Also what are the specs on the 1989 KA24 SOHC motor? thx

The SR will also drop right into the 89-90 models. By right in there is still modification that needs to take place to make it work though. The SOHC has like 145hp 156lb ft torque something like that anyway.

The SR will drop into any year 240. You will need power steering lines from a KA24de (I think) to use the SR in your 89-90 if you want power steering. Also the KA24E A/C compressor will not bolt onto the SR. But the motor bolts directly into place just like any other year 240.

Don't forget the tach is different too.
SR swaps in '89-'90 models are common...

The only things that wont work are the power steering, ac compressor (its kind of a hack job with the DOHC compressor anyways) and the tach.
