I've just recently had my car dyno'd and it didn't push out the numbers I was hoping/expecting it to. I dyno'd 216 rwhp on a mustang dyno where others had roughly bout 290-325 rwhp w/ the same set-up. Now my question is, my FMIC is roughly about 4-5 years old and its small. The core length is 22", 6.5" height, and 2.25" thick. The front of the IC is beated up to death due to our weather plus rocks on the road, is this intercooler size a little too small for the numbers I want to push? Is that what's limiting my power output? Thanks!

that's pretty tiny, but what is your set up exactly? how many lb's of boost etc, need more info

I heard that the mustang dyno is less than the regular dyno. I think u need to take your mustang dyno which is 216 time 35%, then add it up. example like this. 216x.35=75.6, then take 216+75.6=291.6
so basic your final rwhp is around 292 rwhp. correct me if I am wrong. just try to help!!!

Thanks guys. Setup is:
95 S1 RB25DET
Stock Turbo @ 13psi
Stock internals
Greddy IM w/ Q45 TB
FMIC (this intercooler is a little on the small side and I had it for 5 years now)
POD filter
HKS bov
AM-performance turbo elbow w/ 3" high-flow cat, resonator, and apexi'n1 exhaust
Nismo FPR
KOYO rad with two dual pusher fans
Apexi AVC-R
and tuning with Apexi PFC with Commander
There should be a 16% difference between the Mustang and dynojet, so 250whp is where I should be at on a regular dyno. I've just free'd up my exhaust since I found out my cat was shot, and the resonator was down to 2.5", so I've changed them all to 3" straight pipe and the response was deffinitely there, but still doesnt feel like a 40-60 whp difference. I've went to a local shop inquirying an intercooler, and the size he has is 22" core length x 9" height x 2.5" width and says it should handle 300-320 hp, that is what's leading me to think my intercooler is a little on the small side the for numbers I was expecting.

my intercooler core is 22" x 11.5" x 3"

hmm, so should I go for something bigger?
I cant imagine this is the cause of your problems. The IC could possibly of gotten heat soaked but I' take a guess you must be getting a leak some where?
And at 13psi . Having a little bit larger intercooler is probably a good idea but I think your problem lies else where unless the IC itself is leaking.

I would think that at 13Psi the stock turbo will be pushing nothing but hot air. keep your boost @ 12Psi. Im running a big ass Megan FMIC and im having no issues with it.

my intercooler core is 22" x 11.5" x 3"
it handles my power fine, my intercooler pipe on the throttle body side is nice and cold after 22psi....
you can be like everyone else and get 3' x 2' x 3" or you can get something close to the size i'm running, or even a little smaller and have quicker spool than the next guy. honestly the one you have should be fine. but you can't just listen to some guy at a shop saying " my intercooler's huge so it'll handle 1,000,000hp "
and how do you know you're even having heat soak issues?
your intake manifolds gonna be hot, it's bolted to a head that's bolted to a 1,000 degree exhaust manifold. i'm actually in the works with a friend at the machine shop to make a phenolic (sp) intake manifold gasket "spacer" for my rb25. ask some real honda guys about phenolic gaskets. i'm not sure if they make one for an sr20 but they do keep the intake from getting so hot. the other thing you can do is eliminate the coolant hoses that pass through the intake manifold, like on the throttle body for instance, etc.
but honestly man...the intercooler you have is twice as big as the stock one, it'll handle 240 horse with ease. if you want more power you need a better turbo/fuel/management or naaawwwwwwwwwz :P
stop granny shifting and not double clutching like you should :2f2f:
