I made a post earlier last week about shops to do my lsd. I was gonna ask my friend to let me try it at his shop. He has the tools and all the lifts and crap and whatnot. Anyways i got a little problem. I think the LSD that my friend was suppose to sell me was for a PS13. If im not wrong the PS13 is the coupe version. My cars a hatch and its the RPS13. The gears and whatnot are different for the two from what i read. My question is this. Will it be worth the trouble to go find a differential for the PS13 and put it in my car(Or even if its possible to do that). Ive seen posts of differentials from 20-30 dollars. The LSd that i bought was an OSGIKEN and it was a steal for 500 dollars. I would really hate to pass up this opportunity. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

The differentials wont fit on the coupe or hatch. Their totally different. The RPS13, S14, S15 all have the same, except for the RP13. So i was thinking... If i purchase a PS13 open differential, put the OSGIKEN in it, then put it on my RPS13.... will it work:p Sorry if i made it hard to understand. Its hard for me to explain.

all you need is a open diff from a s13

So the Coupe S13 open diff will fit my hatch?

YES.

They are the same. There is no difference between coupe and hatch s13 differentials.

How is that for plain english?

So the Coupe S13 open diff will fit my hatch?

It's the same car, why wouldn't it? That's like asking if the radio from a coupe will fit a hatch.

Ok….. Well.. you guys do know theres a silvia and a 180sx. The gears are totally different in the differential for the S13 and the RPS13….. In order to put a LSD from a S13 into a RPS13 car, you would need to change the drive shaft, flange gears(dunno if spelled right), and the pumpkin from a PS13 car into an RPS13 car. Now this is in Japan, where they are considered totally different cars. The Silvia and the 180sx… That’s why most company’s have 2 types of LSD for the 180sx/silvias. Well if you don’t believe me heres a site of OS giken where it lists the parts. http://osgiken.co.jp/pro_lsd/nissan.html (http://osgiken.co.jp/pro_lsd/nissan.html).

Anyways what I wanted to know was if it was possible that the differentials in the hatch and the coupe are the same in the states. Has anyone actually taken a differential from a coupe into a hatch or vice versa. And if that was possible, what LSD you used. Thank you.

er...... the 2 different parts is because one is for open diff equipped cars, and the other for VLSD equipped cars. the output shafts are different. is that what you are confused about?

i do have experience with taking a hatch diff and putting it in my coupe, though. back in august of 1990, the nissan plant put a hatch diff in my coupe. it fit. done and done.

If your swapping the whole pumpkin.......

Do both cars have ABS? Not sure if LSD meant ABS also.

My open diff'd non-ABS coupe diff is ~.75" shorter than the LSD ABS equipped diff I put in the car. I was able to bolt it in with a bit of squeezing. Its tight but I was able to do it without shortening the driveshaft.

My diff was from a JDM car with a 4.36 ratio....

You've just taken the lead in the stupidest fucking clod on Earth contest.

The site you linked to, although very informative, shows the EXACT same part numbers for both RPS13, PS13, and S14. In fact, the HCR32 and ECR33 are the same as well.
Good way to prove you don't know shit. Like we said, they're the same unless the case is an open diff unit. If you're changing between VLSD cases there is nothing else that needs to be addressed, the driveshaft is the same, the case is the same, the axles are the same. Why? Because the car is the same.

"Hey guys, these parts are completely different, look, even OS Giken says they are. Oh wait, no they don't, I can't read for shit."

Someone emailed me that just changing the diff case and the side flang is ok, and no changing of the drive shaft is necessary. Is this true?

D-NA102061405-S PS13

So much hate.. I see differences here....
