There are more than two.
Henry has one and it looks nice.
A few other guys do. I just don't remember their names/SN's.

Haha, thanks Mel. I have one and yeah, the s12 is sort of an enigma as it was never really popular and aftermarket for it is practically nonexistent. Club-s12 is the best place to find info, it's probably the best s12 forum (and even then info is hard to find and people barely post). My advice would be to go there and seek the info you need if you're really interested, and know what you are getting into if you plan on getting one. If you like it just for looks, corollas look similar, have a TON of aftermarket, and info is everywhere.

I've always wondered why the S12 never became as popular as the AE86. Doesn't the S12 even have multi-link suspension?
deadpirate
06-27-2007, 04:22 AM
early models had solid rear ends, while the later models had independent rear suspension. if im wrong yarou please correct me
yarou
06-27-2007, 05:08 AM
Yeah, 84 ca20e models have solid rear ends while 84 ca18et models, and all models between 85-88 have independent rears which makes use of (GAY GAY) trailing arms.

I've owned a couple. Fun little cars. I offered up the aftermarket support, but neigh but a few s12 owners can rub two pennies together. Which sucks.
Engine: Anything that will go into an S13.
Suspension:
Front S13 Coils w/s13 LCA's, but get adjustable LCA's because the legnth is off, and will sit you with some pretty wicked gross camber/caster/bump.
Rear There are couple 510 guys around that make custom coil overs, you can use one of these in the back. Get it stiff as hell, pick your tire/wheel/offset combo (for life), then slot the trailing arm brackets until you have the desired stance, weld the slots.
R31 House makes an adjustable rear trailing arm. Its about $1800, which is easily 7 times the value of an S12.
In short: If you want to race an S12, learn how to weld

S13 mounts will work in the S12, one way to do the driveshaft http://www.club-s12.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=13950&hl= (http://www.club-s12.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=13950&hl)=
Or you can use the S12 transmission with the the KA bellhousing on it, that is if the car is manual...... That way you wont have to peice together a driveshaft, the S12 one will work.

Ummmm No. Dont do it. If you want a g ride to rally demolition derby on the streets, then get an s12 from a police auction or something. But your life will be MUCH MUCH MUCH better if you dont even get into the S12 realm.

haha i love how people always get those engines mixed up.
s12 kicks ass, yarou yours looks prety dope. any more pics of it.
ive been thinking of picking one up for the past couple months for a legal turbo daily so i can finnish my m30.
in more ways than one the s12 and the m30 are exactly alike in terms of suspension.
you dont have to go the ca18et route either, they offer a vg30e which can be easily converted to vg30et, just take the one out of the 88 300zx turbo and swap it in. as long as the engine is newer than your car you wont have a problem.
modifying the ca18et could be a hasstle. they dont make parts for it BUT you just just use safc, fmic any sr turbo or garette gt w/ custom log manifold and full exhaust. could be a fun project.

I like the way that they look and i think that it would be fun to work on. I don't want an 86 because the money i don't have for one at the time lol. but i want something that will make a lot of people ask me what the hell is that. I have never heard of an s12 until i saw one in a Modified Mag i think last month with an rb20 in it. It was soooo clean. I understand that it is gonna be a pain in the ass but i won't mind.

06-28-2007, 11:13 AM
yeah I understand what your saying. i do too like the way the s12 looks.
im just plain tired of the 240sx. all my friends have them and whenever someone finds out i " DIRFT" they assume thats what i drive. though i have driven them in the past i no longer drive them now.
the whole JDM crazy the s13 and s14 is in is nuts, the market is HUGE for parts and support if you have a 240sx.
but I've seen it all, and repeated 20 times. You get these cocky ass guys get on the forum bagging everything else when what they have really isn't that unique. its the same shit we've already seen.
i say get the s12/200sx and make the best out of it. at least you didn't follow the bandwagon and i appreciate your want for more rather than being the average joe SCHMO.
just becasue others havent had success in the past doesnt mean you will follow in their steps. do your maintenance and get rid of the high milaged engine asap for something more to your liking.
like said above by another memeber follow club-s12.org.

some dude was giving it away cuz it didnt run..motor was seized from no coolant. so i took it home, and started tearing into it.
started out white, with dents..now its black, with less dents. all i got left is a motorswap which is coming in august, suspension, get my tires mounted. get the passenger seat bolted in. custom exhaust, and replace the windshield. then i will be hitting it up at the track.

Welcome to Zilvia, friend!
With that out of the way, I will introduce you to one of Zilvia's fine GEMS.........................
me.
At one point in time, I was known as old_s13. Nowadays I am known as ixfxi. I guess you could say that I'm kinda like Darth Vader who used to be known as Anakin (minus the emo bullshit over princess whatever her name was). Actually, its more like how Tupac eventually decided to just be called Makaveli.
Now, with that outta the way.. lets use a famous feature on Zilvia, called SEARCH. A quick search, combined with the keyword old_s13 will bring you to this gem of a post:
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showpost.php?p=568833&postcount=23
This one and single post, should answer any and every question you have about the 200SX. Once you know the above, theres really no reason to ever ask any other questions.. ever.
Thanks and welcome to Zilvia.

ok...sit back a minute and think...most cars take a few years to design and develop correct? now think about this also, if the s13 was released in 89...that means development began in 86-87..possibly earlier. so...are you saying that the s13 is a poorly designed car?? how about the FC??? or the trueno???

Development on the S12 probably started somewhere in the 70's. Yes the S12 is kind of a bucket. I like the ones that are fixed up, but the rear suspension is such an ENORMOUS DETRACTING FACTOR, that you really cant take it seriously.
The S13 was a revolution in OEM designing, and won awards for the dashboard setting a new industry standard, doing away with the "blocks". It was also very highly acclaimed for utilizing a full multi-link rear suspension on a car that was less than 20k.
FC= The beta version of a car released to the public, using trailing arms, poor weight balance and a hand grenade in place of an engine. Trueno?? Sick hangers on of Nostagilc JDM. S12>AE86

Its really not Same IRS when comparing it to cars like the S13-15, Skyline, 300zx, New GTO etc. Its trailing arms. This means that the more the rear suspension is compressed and loaded up the more negative camber the wheel gains.
Dump the car? 10 degrees negative. Suspension travel? Negative camber. It is a failure.
But trailing arm S12 with IRS is better than the AE86 anyday. The mere fact you can Bolt an SR, CA, KA, VG, RB, VH into it is enought call it a done deal. My Old 88 Coupe weighed in at 2300 wet w/full interior.

I'd honestly rather have solid rear than trailing arms. And as for the s12 with the supercharger popping out of the hood, I don't believe that ever came to be. It was planned, pics were taken with it on the motor, the hole was cut in the hood, but I think the owner changed his mind in the end. It was NeedCAforS13's project

But seriously though... I've been apart of Club-S12 for almost 4-5 years now and I have to say that the forums are slower than before. It seems to me the dedicated owners sold off they're s12 to some newbie and that newbie gives up due to lack of aftermarket and kills of the Forums. Honestly, I dont know. I think when I was a young ixfxi, my father never spent much time with me. Mom passed away when I was very young. Giving birth to me was just too much of a shock to her system. She sacrificed her own life... for MY future.
I love my mother for that, and even till today - I respect that women. Now I live with a fear, an emptiness... that I will never find a woman so tender, so loving - so loved. She was a saint.
Dad was a surgeon. He used to spend long hours at the hospital. I never really knew my father until I got older. During my teens, I despised him. Always going around with sleezy nurses, treating them like trash. He was an alcoholic, and a drug addict. I have no pity for him, no sympathy. He's an empty shell of a man.
Sorry for the long story, I just wanted you to understand where my negativity comes from.
Thanks for listening.

i always liked how this one looked, but yea those cars are pieces of shit. looks (can) good from the outside but terrible everywhere else.
first thing i think when i see a dash/interior like that is "god somethings going to short and make everything not work" the all electronic dash's of the 80's were the biggest abomination ever put in cars.
but this one still looks god tho, transformers style. or maybe voltron.....

that dash is pretty badass
no, that dash is scary because it will break and leave you with shit.
as far as im concerned, the only way to make a good functional digital dash is just the numbers you need, not a bar graph for your rpms that you cant read. although there is a digital rpm guage on there, it still just reminds me of an old lesabre or something.

s12s arent that bad with a little money thrown at them. ka swap is cheap and easy. you dont have to worry about drift tax. funny thing is they werent ever really popular even in japan. i guess because there were so many other alternatives and it was just kind of mediocre. i only really like the looks of the hatch though. can make it look like a psuedo-corolla. just dont expect to do anything crazy without fabbing one-off parts.

thats actually a pretty shitty thing to say... a lot of the S12 guys ive met do some really amazing things with their cars. lots of custom built parts and really neat adaptation. were those comments really necessary?
