So I've had my busted 1992 240sx for almost 8 months now. When I first bought it, I was just looking for a decent body since I figured I'd do a swap later down the road. The car was stock, 258,000 miles on the KA, except that everything behind the front seats were stripped out, which made it only really useful as a project/track/autocross car, which was fine with me.

Since then I've done some repairs to have it pass inspection, recently put on some megan coilovers. Now, however, the clutch is going bad and I can't figure out what the problem is and I'm afraid of how much it would cost to fix it.

Also, my friend pointed out a few rust issues that he says he'd be concerned about in the wheel well. He suggested I consider selling it and trying to find another one with an already swapped SR, which might save some money in the long run.

I'm having a tough time deciding on what to do. Any inputs?

you're in maryland. rust is normal... maybe even unavoidable on an old car, unless you're willing to travel far to find another one. post some pics of the rust and we can tell you if the car is a waste of time or not.

the clutch system is very simple. why don't you post up your specific problem so we can help you figure out exactly how much it would cost to fix?

these kinds of issues are common on old cars. buying a swapped car would probably save you money in terms of the swap itself, assuming you don't inherit someone's headache... but there are going to be problems like this 24/7. something is always going to pop up. that's just the nature of an old project car...

Don't buy an already swapped car if you can avoid it, that can cause more problems than it might solve. You know the history of this car, assess whether the issues you do have with it are worth fixing, swap into your car if anything, refresh everything you can.
Keep it, fix it yourself, you don't want to take on someone else's problems or failed projects

Work with what you already have. If you go out and buy another car, you might end up worse than where you started.

i say the thing!!!!!!!!!!...no seriously keep it. it wouldn't be a project car if it didn't need work done it, now would it.

Keep the car. In the long run you'll learn to love it more. I'm in the process of stripping my car for the 2nd time. (repainting the WHOLE car this time). I know where every bolt, nut, screw, and ziptie is. DIY or die!

Seriously, i think real enthusiests fix their own shit.
