hey everyone im new to the board, ive owned three 300zx's one turbo and a 91 mr2 turbo. Im selling my 84 z31 and am looking to buy a car suitable for a beginner drifterl. I plan on installing an lsd or just welding the diff and eventually some suspension mods..
Id like to know if there is a buyer's guide floating around here for s13's, and if not what should i be looking out for when checking out some that are for sale?
Ive already considered the following
-check for fraim rail rust, sagging suspension, rusted brakes, grinding tranny slipping clutch, oil leaks, burning oil, bent susp parts..
thanks

Honestly, there needs to be no buyer's guide for them, it is not as if these are some kind of ogre living up in the woods or something, to be treated with extreme care. Approach it as you would the purchase of ANY 10-18 year old car.
You live in NY, so look for rust EVERYWHERE, not just the frame rails and such, listen for creaks and groans, understanding again that you're dealing with cars that very few of have south of 100k miles.
Avoid buying a modified car or taking on someone else's project, that usually creates more problems than it solves. In fact, try to avoid buying your 240 from an "enthusiast" about as much as you would try and avoid VD.
General maintenance items are general maintenance items, be prepared to replace gaskets, bushings, fluids and such, as well as a boatload of cleaning and all.
Outside of things that one should already be doing when shopping for a used car, search, read around on this and whatever other forums you may be involved in and look at questions are being asked, there are very few to none at all problems that have not been experienced before, right up to the most odd and bullshit of them. Things have been discussed, the internet houses it all, if you can't find it on forums, look to google.
