so i have a redtop rs. 10psi fmic fpr. prety much stock. but i have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. it reads fine when im driveing normal and reads more pressure when cold and stuff. when i flor it at a high rpm it doenst read any pressure and or it switches around to randome numbers. but the way its the sensor is set up its on a T from the car to the stock sending unit and the gauge sending unit. the only way i can set it so it doesnt hit the oil filter. so would i not get an oil pressure reading because the oils moving to fast it cant read it in the gauge or is it just a crapy gauge?

First of all why would you run an after market gauge off of the stock oil pressure sending unit. It's after market for a reason. What kinda gauge is this. Ebay ? Is it mechanical or electrical ?

no off the gauges sending unit.

Its probably the gauge. I know people that have T'd off the original hole in the block for the oil pressure gauge and run both OEM Oil Pressure sensor AND Aftermarket Oil Pressure Sender. It should read just fine. What kind of gauge is it? Sounds like either the gauge itself or the sending unit isnt up to par.

When the engine is cold, oil pressure should be higher due to increased oil viscosity at low operating temperatures.
As for fluctuating oil pressure at WOT, could you give us more of an idea of what gauge and sender you are using? Also, how the needles acts? Does the needle go from a reading and then drop to zero then go up again over and over?
It could be something as simple as a loose wire, bad ground etc. Unless of course it is a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

well its an electric not machanical timex gauge. i was under the impression they are good gauges. but who knows. here is a link to a timex gauge. not the same one mine is a first gen. but whatever, http://kewlware.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=23&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=44&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26 im thinking it might be a bad conection i will try to get a video.

got a problem kinda like this with my defi gauge i bought in japan. at idle it drops really low and my warning light kicks on and beeps but of course when i'm driving the pressure is showing up fine on the gauge. just when i'm sitting still it acts up. what's the deal?

suprisingly my gauge just stoped working alltogeather one day. it did the startup sweeping motion but nothing else... yep turned out to ge a bad alternator. so might want to get your alternator tested. also i noticed the pressure goes down when my fans kick on. might drop because the oil pump is not spining fase because of a lower idle. who knows...
