Im looking to build my suspension to the best of my ability. My last car just had coilovers... and I think I made a mistake by going sr before building the suspension more. this one I would like to have the best handling car as possible, with a ka!

Realistically, I figure that most of you will tell me to go read a book on it. I've searched... with what little knowledge I know.. .but if you do not even have a knowledge base to start with its hard.

/excuses :-P

so... what I do know: coilovers, alignment, good tires... what else? :D

Linkages to account for geometry changes. SPLparts (splparts.com)

Seat to hold your ass in a corner. Most anything.

Wider rims to fit more tire. As long as it isn't Rota/ADR/Sportfail you should be fine.

Skill. Track days are plenty during the summer.

driver skill will make any suspension better

go to a track and see what its like to go fast around corners

search more, read more, save up cash

and stop posting dumbass "ultimate" threads

If you paln to go with coilovers then you mind as well go with all the other suspension necessities such as

Rear Upper Control Arms (Rucas)
Tie Rods and Rod ends
Tension Rods
Toe Rods
New Sub Frame Bushing
Sway Bars
Strut Bars
ETC

The best handling suspension in the hands of an unexperienced driver is practically useless...

Do I need to link you to the countless videos of people crashing extremely well prepped cars? (a certain EVO video comes to mind).

All the information is in the stickies... and greatest thing will be seat time, as everyone has and will tell you.

The funny thing is, I learned more racing on stock suspension than I did w/ a full suspension setup (coilovers, all the arms mentioned above, etc).

Here's a great starter book (more about driver, not about suspension):

Secrets of Solo Racing: Expert Techniques for Autocrossing and Time Trials
by Henry A. Watts

It's about $10, and I believe you can even check it out @ the Library.

You can also try attending a local autox, gymkhana, whatever you are into, event & getting ride-a-longs.

let me tell you the secret of the "ultimate" suspension
it's call $$$ start making it.
best of everything add up to be about $8k to $10k, yes that's just suspension.
not including widebody, sticky tires, big brakes, and wide forged one piece wheel.
at the end you are just going to settle for, what's bang for the buck stuff.

i think the best upgrade you can do for handling is to get a bucket seat. stock S13 seats sucks ass, they dont hold for shit. i can turn a lot harder now with out my ass sliding everywhere, i can also feel more feedback from the car.

decent power from a rebuilt engine. Yellow valve cover is ugly on the white bay.

His chassis is seriously light...everything is gone inc. headlights. From what I remember Russ even dropped a few pounds from the wiring harness. The car is meticulous, but hes learning the driving part first.

ditto on the weak engine... nice engine bay tho...

the thing is when u go solid on the suspension it kinda tends to get bumpy, so i can bare the bumpy ride for a solid suspension go for it...

p.s. make ur own sway bar its super easy...

why are we talking about an SR in a thread by a loser who wants to build the ultimate suspension?

Oops I thought he currently had an SR in his car, guess that was his prior.

^^ Theres alot more done to that car than most on here, it is built specifically for the track and is not street legal. I hope no one takes this the wrong way but this car a REAL track car, no hard parking, no outrageous body kit. Just the bare minimum, there is nothing in this car that doesn't need to be in it.

+1 for you. It gets on my nerves when people talk about all the track performance they want out of there car, and then they throw in a huge ass stereo, pay big $$$ for a body kit etc.

A car built for the track has nothing it doesn't NEED... that usually means not even headlights etc.

imo, it totally depends what your objective and what your driving style is.

what may be a very effective suspension for the track, may be way too stiff (im not referring to comfort) or even dangerous for street driving. comfort is an entirely different issue of course. what may be effective for autoX may be too twitchy for roadrace.

then there's just a matter of personal preference. tracking your car a lot not only improves on your overall driving experience, but it also gives you feedback on how you think you can improve your car based on your preferences. it just a matter of experimenting with diff parts and settings until you have something you're happy with. its prob very subjective, so there's little point in asking what the ultimate suspension is imo.

as mentioned by others, however, things like adding an lsd, grippier tires, better seats that give you feedback, etc are usually accepted by most as improvements in handling. its hard to going wrong with the basics, so its generally a good place to start.

any car will handle good if you put goodyear qualifying slicks on it

edit i just read through some of this thread, is this like 2 shitty threads merged into one or something

lots of non sequiturs in here

cool I got the mechanical answer I was looking for... and Im surprised that you guys all agree that seat time is an important mod... my friend was just saying that the other day.

I guess its time to join the scca and hit up some auto-x!

btw quit hating on the ULTIMATE!!!!!!!111 :D

and thanks for the book recommendation! I need something to keep me occupied on this next trip to japan... I heard psp's explode at cruising altitude:faint:

All that will help but you wil still need to tune the suspension before taking it out to the track with corner balancing. The track will help you fine tune it. It's good that you decided to get it to handle better before pumping up the hp's ;)
