View Full Version : crank angle position sensor??
jw if anyone can help me locate the sensor. ive searched and know that its suppose to be on the bellhousing, but after checking multiple times, im not too sure anymore. i bought the car with the CEL on and eventually found out it was the crank angle sensor. ive also read that they sometimes get destroyed when not removed during a clutch replacement (which the guy said he had done), and was thinking that was it. already bought a replacement, please help, i need to SMOG!
if u can, please show me where it is located on ur car (pix please!).
oh, and my car is a 95 s14 (OBDI)
heres my understanding where its suppose to be located. maybe i just need to look again, and again!

Yours might be gone. You'll see either a hole or the sensor on top of the bellhousing, driver's side. Also look for the harness hanging under the car somewhere, it comes off the lower harness near the starter.

Also if you look behind and under the egr tube from the top you can see the hole(if its gone) or a metal housing looks like the top of a bell... or just a flat black piece

Thats the maf your thinking of. But yes the CPS is on the block/head. On top of the Clutch housing(bellhousing). Just feel around in the general location of the picture, if you can't see anything.

Block, head, and bellhousing are three completely different areas. Don't confuse the guy any more than he has been already.
Bellhousing. It's not located anywhere else.

No. Camshaft position sensor will do that, not the crank. Research a little next time please.

i was thinking the same thing!! just looked at it again today, and i couldnt find any sign of the sensor. the tranny looks pretty clean and i also saw some writing on it (its said "C/W"), so im almost positive the tranny is a replacement. how can u tell if its a s13 or s14?

s13 doesnt have a hole for it. s14 does
i called him up and he said that its a 95 (OBDI), so it should be located in the distributor, is that correct?

NO thats what people have been telling you all along, as long as it is s14 it has a whole on top of the bellhousing

Jesus man, have you read anything we've told you? The camshaft position sensor is located in the distributor, and that's for ALL 91-98 240SXs, as well as any other KA24DE engine.
The crankshaft position sensor is located on top of the transmission bellhousing, beginning on 1995 models. It's also found there on every other 96+ Nissan model as well as some 95s.
The cam position sensor is used for timing and is a required part for the engine to even start, the crank position sensor monitors misfire and is a diagnostic part only, it can be deleted without any issue besides a CEL.
If you're not even going to bother to read and follow the advice given here, don't ask questions. You've got a dozen people telling you the correct answer yet you're still listening to the fuckwad jackass who sold you the car who apparently knows about as much about that car as the gum wrapper I just threw away.
i dont remember asking anything about the camshaft position sensor (i think nissanracer29's post might have twisted this up a little bit), and have taken every post into consideration. i do try to search a little before asking questions. i only asked because i didnt know that the camshaft position sensor was the only sensor in the distributor. thank u all though!!
