Ok, so I got a 95 240 for about 2600 bucks and I looked it up six months later on kbb.com a was amazed that in good condition its worth 3100-3900 bucks ranging between trade in and dealer price.
Ok so good investment? dont know.... Checked out edmunds.com and they say I got robbed at a value of 1900-2700 same catagory.... what gives? these are the two biggest sites for car values and they are way off....
Lastly Id like to address the vanity we all share, apparently we tend to think even the lamest s14 base auto rust bucket is still worth 4500 bucks. and god forbid you find a 97-98 s14 for less than 7500 bucks....
If we are right on the pricing then why does the market laugh loudly in all of our faces. These are in short supply and that should alone drive up the value but the rest of the world does nt agree...
How can we come to some consensus on what the value per year and option levels at a specific mileage interval should be so that kbb and edmunds and the average joe can compare realistically.

oh I forgot, try going to nissan or any dealer and ask for a trade price... lol sad... they will tell ya its an auction car and give you an offer 500-1100:fawk2:

my car wouldnt be an auction car. being the condition that its in (besides the mods i did in the last 4 months it was showroom condition with less than 100k miles) which isnt bad for an 18 year old car.
but honestly i think people who are into 240's are nuts with what they think is worth a lot of money. ive seen people try to jack up the price of their car because it DIDNT have any options...just because it would be a better race car...i dont know. some people want way too much for 240's, but then again you see the people who buy them for $700 or less...who knows. its an odd scene
it's all about supply and demand. If people in the 240 scene continue to demand more 240s, the people supplying them will charge whatever they damn well please.

i hve bought s14 rolling chassis with ka that were blown for 500 bux and sold them for 2grand.picked up a few s13 coupe's for 2000bux and got 1k bye just washin and waxing them. clean title. its all about supply/demand. people are om 240's right now they are the mad tight jdm thing to drive/modd. and the fact that its a drift car can leave u with few to choose from in your area. finding a clean title s13/s14 can be hard and traveling to find them is a must.

Yeah fair enough but the gap between what the bean counters and enthusiast is so vast that id hate to try and claim full coverage insurance based on an apprasial.... had to insure based on stated value which sucks

Its also depends on location, like eastcoast were I 'm from it is hard to find a s14 SE and if you find one its beat to shit and costs 7500 if your lucky and people buy them cus they dont want to go elsewhere and get them cheaper.

Thats why im holding my breath that in 4 yrs, the trend will slow down. Hopefully the honda bandwagon realizes that some 240s are bigger pieces of shit than hondas and they jump back to the honda bandwagon.
You want a decent S-chassis driven by some lady? Go check out FL.

man this can be said for any import....check the kbb price of a 93 rx-7 against what people sell them for or the price of a 95 supra...same deal, old ass imports arent worth shit to the average person...they just see a 15 year old car...its people who know that there is a market for what they have selling to people willing to pay higher prices....theres plenty of people on craigslist selling their 240s for dirt cheap because they have no idea what its worth to some....Im in the same boat as you, I paid 2500 for a 95 with 96k on it...I think thats a steal and a lot of people would probably wonder why I waste my money on such an old car in the first place

Those two cars are not even close to relevent. both featured in multiple main stream movies,,,, kinda the general lee 69 charger deal there... 240's are not as popular in hollywood... plus they are not the flagship performance offering by their brand like supra and rx7

honda guys are mostly grewing into 350z,evo,wrx,s2k, and scion(don't ask).
only a few will get into a s chasis.
you can always tell who's a hondahead before.
1. they want to fully rebuild a sr20 with forged internals.
2. they run around in black stamp steels.
3. tein, beginner driver stickers.
4. want a carbon fiber lip for their s chasis.
why do I know all this?
me<-----ex hondahead haha
now I want to get into vip, but I can't justify spending $4k on wheels and $3k on bodykit.

Indeed, its hype as well as consumer/seller knowledge... If you get lucky and find a guy who bought a '95 SE for his daily commute, he probably didn't mod it, kept it well maintained, and just wants to get it out of his driveway when he decides to sell it... Then there are the people who know that its a nice RWD and will up their price thinking someone stupid will buy it... I got lucky with mine, a '89 for 2k... Can't complain... But I did see a lot of super beat up POS cars that had asking prices higher than what I paid for mine.. Hopefully the trend does die down...

Supply and Demand.
In our culture, money is regarded as the tool to make fantasies become reality. Is a diablo worth over 100k in metal and manufacturing?
Fair market value in a capitalist society will always be the value of your dreams, no matter what they may be.

i paid 12k for my relatively stock 95 se in near mint condition. It was dynomatted from front to back with a sweet stereo in it. Rare 4 bolt lightweight volks. lowered with shitty equipment. i'm also in canada where 240 sales were low and prices tend to be a bit higher. some call it crazy, i call it worth every penny.

the real world price is whatever someone is willing to pay. kbb and edmunds can only give estimates on private-sale prices. It's not like every private sale price gets submitted to them. 240's are now more popular than ever before (though I really haven't seen much of an increase since tokyo drift), while very day the pool of available 240's decreases so expect prices to be on the rise.

You guys haven't been to Canada yet... I paid 4k for what would be considered a rustbucket 1991 in the southern states. Prices here are ri-fuc*ng-diculous.

This whole thread is retarded. Look up any car on kbb.com, you'll get FMV. Now look that same car up anywhere else and you'll find prices ranging all over the board, based on a million different variables. You can buy an S13 for $500 or $2500, either way it's price is set on location, owner, mileage, condition, upgrades/new parts, etc. There's no possible way to say that a 240SX is a lower market car, a niche market car, easy to find, in demand, or a sought after rare gem, it's a car, nothing else. The owners are what dictate the market. Everyone else has no say in the matter because they're not part of it. Edmunds doesn't watch F&TF and say "aw hell, 240s just went up", and the used car salesman sees it just like anything else, a car worth $500 that he can sell for $5000. Doesn't matter if it's a 240 or a Jetta, it's a used car.
Trying to figure out the market is like trying to understand why skinny guys bang fat chicks.

I just hate assholes who think they can they can raise the price to compensate for the money they payed a shop to do all the work, soooo stupid.
that and ppl who dont understand depreciation
98koukile
06-21-2007, 03:56 PM
depreciation only occurs when people aren't willing to pay whats being asked... I had someone offer me 11k for my 98 and I've had a few people try trading me audi's easily worth over 12.

John Griff, you're the man. A 2008 Diablo to me personally is worth nothing. One day hopefully I can buy an exotic car.. and make it my daily driver. I'll also have a fucking big sticker made that will read.. "This is my daily driver. My weekend car is a Nissan 240sx".. right on the rear bumper. A car is only worth.. Hell... ANYTHING.. is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. A couple NJ buddies of mine have simply walked up to your average joe that is driving a 240, and offered them money. Works every time.. One of my buddies picked up an S14 for 2500.. 5spd, manual, red, SE, all options besides leather. Thats considered a fuckin steeeeeeeaaaal in these parts. Going rate for mostly rust free 5spd S13 in my parts is 3k, S14s go around 7-10. I saw a black 98 auto kouki sell for 9800!!!! It had 120k miles on it. Guy from Texas bought it. Took the 1st plane to NJ, and drove it back to TX. Fuckin nuts is what it is. Fuck Honda too. No wait. I love Honda. Back in the days those cars took the attention away from 240s and other nice enthusiast cars. Now I hear these crazy psychos slinging phrases like "Ima get me a drift car, ya kno? Just for driftin 'n' shit on da weekends." FUCK YOU :cj: :faint: :fawk: :fawk:
I love my 240.. Been a Nissan/240sx enthusiast since 96.. Please Honda. Come back, make a statement, and give us our cars back.

Why do I find it hard to believe that you were into Nissan's and 240sx's when you were 9 years old?

prices are so f***ing ridiculous It almost sounds more affordable to by rolling chasis and drop a engine in it. Especially if you plan to do SR or RB straight out the gate.

I think I got the best steal ever 91 240 with 28k original 1 owner for 3500. Was probably one of the lowest mile ones out there. And just purchased it in march btw.
