hey guys

it's that time again to get my car smogged and i have a check engine light so i pulled the codes. i got a "knock sensor" code and "crank angle sensor" code. I need help on where these sensors are located just for a visual inspection before i get new ones. i have a 95' S14 with a KA and any help would be awsome. thanks

Knock sensor is under the intake manifold, sitting against the block. Its a round sensor that has a 12mm bolt holding it in place, roughly middle of the block around # cylinder area. Crank angle sensor is on top of the tranny bellhousing. If you look from the driver side and look straight down the gap between the firewall and the engine, you should see it on top of the bellhousing.

thank you :)

Oh yah its pretty rare for knock sensors to go bad...i suggest resetting the ECU first and see if the codes go away before you start changing sensors. I say since youre gonna be trying to pass smog, do a full tune up first then reset the ECU. Hopefully the codes that registered are just random.

The knock sensor trips with a bad signal from the O2, MAF, or CMPS, poor quality gas, or hot weather conditions. 99% of the time it's a resettable code due to driving conditions, not an actual problem. Reset the codes and try it again, you should be fine.

As far as the crank angle sensor, have you done a clutch swap? If you have, that could have gotten smashed when the tranny pulled/reinstalled. Common occurance when they dont get pulled out before the tranny got yanked.

Hey Flip.. Thanks for telling me that, I had no clue such a thing could happen. I just took pulled/reinstalled my trans twice this month. I can imagine my shits mangled. Power FC with its god like status wouldn't tell me shit if the sensor wasn't working. Thanks for the info.
