alright i just dropped the tranny. there was a slight grinding residue on the pressure plate from the lubed TOB but it rubbed right off. it seems as if the outside of TOB i lubed was spinning/grinding on top of the pressure plate instead of sticking to it then spinning. all the TOB parts were in good cond. spins freely, guide is good cond, etc. now im confused if the horrible grinding noise is from the TOB or the tranny itself. the grinding noise is only present when the clutch pedal is pressed in, but when i try to shift into gears it grinds louder for a second then goes into gear, and all noise is gone as soon as i let the clutch out and drives smoothly until i press in the clutch pedal again. is it the TOB or the tranny? i need help..

doubt its tranny
if not tob, then maybe bad pilot bearing?

if it is the pilot bearing, wouldn't it make the noise when the clutch pedal is out?

in my experience a noise at clutch in is a problem with the tob.

many people say it can also be indicative of a bad pilot bearing, but i've never experienced that.

i'd be amazed if it were the tranny. when the clutch pedal is in, the tranny is not engaged.

no need to get sarcastic. just throwing ideas out there.

plus it looks like you're already getting plenty of help in your other thread. why create two?

TO bearing is cheap, replace it anyway.. Pedel pressed in, it shouldn't make noise.. I doubt its the trans.

TOB! replace it, check your clutch condition while your at it. Has nothing to do with the noise, but it might be a good time for a new clutch!
