So my starter is dying on me and its urking me a bit as its my third starter I'm having to replace. I know this may sound like a weird question....but is there a particular make (brand) or year (S13 or S14) starter that tends to be good?

Buy a rebuilt unit from the dealer. It's not much more than a reman at any auto parts store and proven to be a better rebuild. I've gone through four or five AutoZone/Advance/NAPA starters on customer's cars before in short periods of time, but the dealer ones I install never come back.
Alternately you can have it rebuilt locally buy a reputable place. I started doing that with all my used ones simply to have them look better and be warrantied. Even with the lowballers of today no one wants to buy a used, dirty starter unless it's $5.

Thank you for the response.....I honestly didn't know the dealership sold rebuilt units. I'm going to check this out next week, but for the time being I will have to use a temporary unit that I hope can last a week.

Doesn't your starter have a warranty? I bought a lifetime guarenteed starter so I dont really car how often it needs to be replaced. But generally if it has lifetime warranty it lasts.

It's his first time changing the starter.

So why would it have a lifetime warranty?

I suggest buying a remanufactured oem starter or having your starter rebuilt.

There are a couple places local to me that rebuild starters, alternators and such, I know that 2 of them are damned good from when I was in school for aviation maintenance, if one of those type items were broken, our instructors would take them and have them rebuilt, with no thought of replacing.
A rebuild as just as good as, if not better than a replacement, and is locally warranted as well. I don't know how far Dumfries is from NC, but I can put you on to about some places here in Greensboro if I am conveniently located...
*edit*
Dumfries is in Prince William, that is over 4 hours from here

Where did you get yours?

This is not my first time getting (or changing) a starter. Two have been taken from a junkyard (one currently on the car), and other from Olympic parts that did not come with a lifetime warranty.

Phlip - I can ask around for a place that rebuilds starters, but I have better luck going to my dealership.

Uh no actually it's not.

And I bought mine from Pep Boys I think, Bosch. I don't remember the price but it's worth it to buy a lifetime warrantied one. I think Autozone has their own brand of lifetime starters too.

Fuck going to the dealer that's too pricey. Im sure you must have a Kragen/NAPA/Peps/Autozone that carries lifetime shit.

Have you ever priced a dealer unit? The dealership is $30 more, less if you have an account. I'd rather pay $30 than to crawl under and swap starters monthly. A lifetime warranty is great but when you spend a lifetime using it, you don't really come out ahead.
Again that's just my experience. One can get lucky, but swap enough parts on a dozen or so cars a year and you learn the right way to do things.
