I want to swap get a died KA24DE and rebuild it for my 89. I think turbo kits are a little cheaper for those. But is there any difference? Same tranny and everything?

The trannies are the same but the engines are different....mostly minor stuff though (SCV, AIV, OBD, ...).

supposedly the S14 KA had hypereutetically treated pistons that are a bit stronger......

actually i think there is a difference in the bottom end of the ka24de from 95-98...they made them a little cheaper and threfore they're not as strong...most ka24de's have a rep for a bullet-proof bottom end, but you may want to look into that if your going to go turbo because a stronger bottom end will be able to handle more pressure..as far as the top end goes depending on how much boost you plan on running you may have to lower the compression and look into high compression pistons and forged rods, maybe a 3-angle valve job just to smooth things out. and as with almost any turbo upgrade you will need to upgrade the fuel injectors...i dont think youll have to go as big as a 550cc injector but fuel supply is an issue with that motor when a turbo is involved.

but the motor will handle 6-7 psi without a problem, if thats all you plan on running , look into slightly larger injectors, and in general make sure the motor doesnt have alot of wear and tear on it, unless you plan on rebuilding the internals, b/c some of the ka's have been known to blow up at 7psi while others run perfectly.

The s14 didn't have those hypereutetic pistons. On FA they got the actual part numbers for a 91' 95, and 97 240. And they were the same. Oh well. I beilieve it was someone at Jim Wolf..
