89 Coupe No Brake Lights?

I just bought a 89 coupe... drove it 10 mins to my house & swapped an SR into it. I have no idea if the brake lights worked before. The car was an auto before but I swapped it to a 5sp. Parking lights front and rear work, headlights work but will not go up and down, interior lights, turn signals all work. But none of the brake lights work... and suggestions?

Check/replace the switch.

I had a problem with the tailightss on one side working but the brake lights would not. It turned out to be that the plastic around where the ground wire is bolted down had melted on over the ground wire and stopped the connection. I unscrewed the ground and scraped the plastic off and everything was fine.
