Earlier today, when I was putting back my transmission after swapping my clutch. I noticed that my driveshaft wouldnt slide into the transmission, I tried rotating it, and using a little force, but nothing worked.

I took off my driveshaft and got a flashlight to look inside the tranny.
and I noticed that there was a rounded spiral spring that appeared to be jammed inward. I pulled it out, and it slid inward no problem.

Does anyone know the function of this spring???

I've installed several clutches but never noticed this spring within the tranny, under the shifter.

I don't have a spring in my tranny, at least not to my knowledge. This is a KA?

Yea its a KA,

When you insert the driveshaft into the transmission, and match the spindles.
Right there I found a round spiral spring..

I might be able to drive w/o it , but I wanted to sum up its purpose.

fucking lame!

that means I'm going to be leaking everywhere?

How can I fix this? The wierd part is I found the spring way back by the driveshaft.

noooooo

its not called a rear main seal

thats the seal for the tail shaft of the tranny, where the driveshaft slides in. it came apart and got pushed into the tranny obviously

you cant drive without it ot royur gonna dump tranny fluid

yea its an easy fix, go to your lokal parts store get a rear transmission seal at the driveshaft napa part 13907 if my memory serves me correct, pull the seal out and drive the new one in, preferably with a seal driver or if not take your time with a hammer and a 2x4. and done.
