View Full Version : best paint to spray satin black? and does it accept chalk?

what is the best to spray on? best quality? I tested a few at a couple of different stores, and I thought rustoleum satin black sprayed the THICKEST, however, I am not sure as to what would be the best on the actual car, with the smoothest finish...

also... do flat/satin spray cans accept chalk? I feel like being able for people to draw on it... being that it is a strictly fun/auto-x/dorifuto car :D

the $.99 a can wal-mart flat black will look exactly like a chalk board after the first rain. thats the only flat black i've used and it SUCKED! glad it wasn't going on my car! i've seen good results from rustoleum satin black.

gay ass ghetto paint jobs with their crappy ass paint need to go to hell.

so sick of people ghettofying 240s.

Well, Mad Russian, the paint I posted is to be sprayed with a gun, not a rattlecan. Second, my car is rattlecanned because it was just something fun to do to cover up the 5 different colors of primer and original Nissan paint. :D Someday, I will have my car painted professionally. Until then, I like the look of my car.

My car is also not flat black. It's flat Olive Green. :keke:

chalk board paint is terrific if you're 8. if you REALLY want satin black, ppg makes some and it's decent paint. it's your car, not mine...but think it over some before you do it.

I did the rattle can flat black and alot of people couldnt believe that it was rattle can . I think the most important thing is prepping the car and taping the car . here are some pictures of 12 cans and 3 hours from start to finish .

Yeah I saw Billy's car up close and person, and the paint is very smooth and even for a rattle-can job. Good Work.
Alot of auto paint manufacturers now offer alot of great "satin" look paint which is cool if you want a nice, durable finish that won't fade and crack.

hater! :D

SATIN black or chalkboard serves as a backdrop to bring out the brighter colors to be painted on top of it.

I'll try to find someone with a gun, but I dont know where to get the paints that go in there... or what they are called... or even know where to begin searching. any help? :D

That is a great source for Satin. If you are heart set on chalkboard, I can't help you.

I'm not a fan of rattle can paint job or flat paint jobs.

That's just my personal opinion though, no offense to anyone.

A friend of mine painted his Mk3 GTI black, but added a flattening agent to the paint to make it look like matte black (we'll say 1/2 flat black). He then clear coated the entire car, and wetsanded it. Looks sick as hell.

i did a rattle can job on my fender and it came out ok. i used rustoleum gloss black but i did some tedious prep work and color/wet sanding. if i had the gun and maybe oem super black (KH3) paint if would come out much better. heres a pic...

That shit looks CLEAN, boi!! Good work! I'm debating rattle canning my front and rear bumpers (stock) after prep, but I don't know the factory 240SX black paint code - although, I haven't looked for it yet...

flat black FTW...
I sprayed my fc3s outdoors.. bad idea, looked bad from the start but it held up for 2 years. gonna respray it with a gun this time and use real deal pro.paint with a flattener, should look much better. gotta love the menacing look of a low, wide car in flat black... but IMHO if youre on stock wheels and mostly stock appearance, then it just looks stupid and cheap.
