Is it possible to build an OBD2 SR20DET from the OBD2 SR20DE parts from a sentra and get it running in a 240sx?

why?? first you would need a way to use the de obd2 ecu on the det since none of the jdm cars have a obd2 set up
s14 or s13

to pass inspections no other reason. It seems fairly possible to me, and im sure theres a market for it if someone can find a way to get the ECU to work, correct?
It's just a thought, so people with 96+ 240s can have a road legal Sr especially on the east where there aren't visual inspections.

The DET is illegal in the US, period. Making it pass inspection doesn't change that.

what he is trying to say, is that up in the north east here, no one does a visual inspection or really cares what engine is in your car. all they care about is when its time for inspection can they hook their computer upto an obdII port, and see that the engine isnt throwing codes. thats all that is needed for inspection here, we get off mad lucky

Same down here, but you'd still have to use a 96+ DE ECU and reprogram it to run the DET engine, and add all the required EVAP controls. That alone would be a serious waste of time and money.

So you are saying it is possible, it just will take time and money, like everything else does?

yeah this would definably be possible, but your best bet would still just be to find someone who is willing to sell you an inspection sticker.

Yes, it is possible, but do you know what OBD-II is?

Can't really do that here, there are only state operated inspection and they hire all old ladies to handle the paperwork where you get the stickers

I know about as much as wikipedia states, if you have additional information feel free to let me know.

No gas stations do inspections there? Ez pass is just holding 2 100 dollar bills in front of the guy and say you need your inspection done.

If that's all you know then you need help. OBD is a communication protocol between the engine control system and the scan tool. If you don't have extensive background in embedded control system like 99.9% of people do not, you can do it but you have to learn how to program in machine code.
Not only that but the sensors will have to be installed. That's why most "tuners" hate OBD-II. OBD-0 is the best to modify.
It's not simple plug and play like plugging in a bunch of sensors and installing an ECU. It's hard work and potentially costs millions of dollars.
The closest thing you'll get is a black marget OBD-II simulator, wherein the module tricks the scan tool with fake engine data. I don't even know where to get one of these because they are illegal.
Since you're messing with the emissions control system, you're potentially violating federal law = felony = federal pound me in the ass prison.
Good luck.

Modifying the emissions control system violates both state and federal laws, and is punishable with fines and prison. I was simply advising him of the law before doing something he regrets.
Here's the link relevant to your state: http://www.tceq.state.tx.us/implementation/air/mobilesource/vetech/tampering.html
If you're going to violate the law, never ever post about. I wouldn't assert that other people violate the law as well because your statement could be subjected to subpoena, i.e. if you don't list the "99% people here" by name, you go to jail for obstruction of justice. The Zilvia member list alone spans 8456 pages. You do the math.

What the fuck do you need an OBD2 on a turboed SR for????
Your engine doesn't pass EPA DOT, so why the fuck do you care what the ecu does for smog....This thread is fucking lame!!!!!!!!!!!
Besides if you get the ecu to work have fun with code 32!!!!!
Waste of time and money, when you ask questions like this stick with engines that are legal, the time and man power to swap for an OBD2 ecu just for DOT, seems ridiculously stupid...IMO

why is everybody getting thier panties in a bunch about the question.
BigVinnie I don't live in cali, smog is the last thing on my mind. Never even seen the stuff. If the engine was legal I would not have asked the question. You are a winner.
g6civcx, Thank you for the information. You said that it could potentially cost millions. Can you give more detail into how it would cost millions or high thousands if you were being facetious about the dollar amout?
