So, I was always wanting to have someway to test my coil packs by inventing my own method w/o spending a dime. This thing really work, I will try to get a video to show it to you guys how I can make my spark plugs spark with a 14V driller battery, not too strong of a spark but at least tells you they work, well to me.

you wanna explain what you did and show everyone how so this thead has some good info in it for others to use rather than just a look what I did thread?

the least you could have done is try to explain your method
this really has no value to anyone

yea please explain, all i see is a coilpack, a drill battery, and randomly connected wires.

You also need to measure the spark jump, In mm or inches, because knowing that it works can be done in the car. Also, how well it's working compared to the other coilpacks is a better option for repair, placement or replacement.
ie. coilpack 1, 3, and 4 spark jumps 2.5inches and coilpack 2 spark jumps 1inch. Of course the test has to be controlled. Yes I've made one for my bench but, yours looks portable.

Got some more work to do on it, waiting to get my scope and some other meters to complete this, this was just a quick test anyone can do by looking at the internal wiring schematic of the coil pack in the s14 FSM. Just wire everything as it is, but use the drill battery instead. Be careful if you do this is at your own risk and you can get zzaped, not by the battery but the thousands of volts coming out the coil, might not be the same as when in the car but at least it tells me I can get a spark out the coils and that I can track my problems some other place.

That's the problem I'm having, they don't work inside the car, so now I can rule out the coilpacks and look somewhere else. I don't really care about jumps and whatever sequence they fire right now, so I don't need to control it, I just need to get them to spark inside my car and this might help me out.

:wtf: I came here looking forward to seeing a useful/free tool described in this thread... If you're going to take the time to post up a thread on a test tool u made, can you at least you can tell us what you did instead of just pointing to the FSM?

To the other poster with the spark-jump-measurer, mind sharing some details of your setup?

BTW if you're not getting spark in the car, have you inspected your transistor pack and CAS? GL with that.

Well I have been told in this forum that the CAS has nothing to do with me getting a spark, other that just telling the ECU the right time of when to spark and to what cylinder and that I should be able to get a spark with even if the CAS is BAD. And yes I have tested my transistor pack and it;s good, I have 5, all from Q45s, all test out the same way and pass the FSM test proces.

hey buddy....

1) paint your fucking bumper. shit looks hideous in your sig, and i am sure it looks even worse in real life.

2) get some sideskirts..

3) make better posts. this is the worst collaboration of thoughts i have ever read. if your going to post, atleast make a pretty write-up that makes sense.

#1 for you stupid hater, Here are my parts for which I have worked my ass for and I'm doing my own shit to my car and can do whatever the hell I want with.

And to all the other peeps that really tried to help me and give me tips on how to resolve my issue I thank for your collaboration, Had someone even send me a message with his phone to try to help, but there is a lot of other peeps in here that don't appreciate what others are doing. So if a Moderator gets to see this please cancel my subscription, cuz I wont be posting here no more.

The CAS sends a signal to the ECU to indicate every 90 degrees and 1 degrees. If the CAS is bad the ECU can't determine RPM, and more importantly, it can't determine when #1 is TDC. This will stop it from sparking at all. But if your CAS is bad or unhooked I believe you will have a code for it. Have you pulled the codes lately, are there any stored? The CAS is also used for determining when to fire the injectors, so if you're getting fuel your CAS is probably good. You should be able to remove the CAS, turn the key ON, then spin the CAS by hand. You should be able to hear the injectors fire and the coil packs firing as you rotate it. This is how it's done on the RB at least, not sure about the SR, but it's probably identical. Use your DMM on the transistor pack during cranking to see if the ECU is sending the coils the firing signal. I believe it just grounds out the wire for the cyl it wants to fire.

What do you have in your glove compartment? It looks like carputer or something based on those IDE cables coming out of it?

BTW this could be made into a good post for someone wanting to learn how to test their coil packs or diagnose their ignition problem :). U might want to consider putting instructions for someone else to build their own tester (no matter how easy it might be for u to look it up in the FSM, that's already asking too much for most zilvians it seems).. Don't mean to stir things up, but if people offered you their phone numbers to try and help you so much, why not continue posting here, and ignore the people that don't contribute.

Thanks to mello and Canadu for their replies. Mello It all makes sence of what you said, so I'll look into that. I will draw a diagram of what the coil pack test I have done is all about and how to do it, will post it as soon as I can and will also try to get it working with the ECU and igniter. and what I have in the glove box is a xbox with custom made cables to xtend them so I can have the cd tray in my dash under the radio, it has 200GB HDD with games, movies, videos, pictures and a whole bunch of shit, the best of all is that I also installed Windows Media Center into it, so it's a PC, Game Machine and just an all in one, working on getting wireless internet on it.
