View Full Version : A/C Dryer question

My A/C went out back in October and purchased a compressor off of a wrecked '97 and also purchased the expansion valve, and tried to purchase a dryer but the parts rep at my local dealership told me they have different ones for the S14.
So how many different dryers are there for the S14? I have a '95 and I bought the one off of a '97 because of price and availability, so would I need to get a dryer that is for a '97 application?
I know it sounds like a dumb question but I didn't know there were different variations of the A/C dryer.

The 97 compressor won't work on the 95 properly, the lines don't fit the same. A 96 also will not work, the line outputs are a different size completely.
You should order the drier to your chassis, the 95-96 is one style, the 97-98 is different and will not work.

Excuse me, sorry to butt in, but what is the sensor thing with the 4 pin plug ontop of the dryer? The plastic part broke off of mine (i have a 96) and I was curious if i could just glue it back on?

Triple pressure switch. Signals the ECU to cycle the compressor. If the switch is still you can halfass it, but a new one is easy to locate. I have a dozen of them available for sale, all tested for operation.

Hey there r240 you seem to know alot about the ac system, wondering if you could help me out. I have a 96 s14 se, and the ac is out. tried the relay and it works, if I jump the relay with a wire the compressor will kick over, but with the relay plugged in it wasn't getting power when the switch was on, looked to the wiring diagram and thought it would either be the ambient air temp sensor or the tripple pressure sensor, got a aat sensor of a wrecked 96' and it worked for like three hours, but no cold air. so I though about replacing the aat and the tripple pressure since that is what cycles the compressor pressure, do you think this is correct?

The switch on a 96 is different than the 89-90s, i also looked for something that would work from maxima/sentra/infiniti, all ahve different plug types.
When you say halfa$$ it what do you mean? I think i can glue it well enough to work, but I dont know if the glue would hold in hot weather.

The switch is also different from the DOHC S13s, though I don't see your point. All 95-98s use the same triple pressure switch, that's what I have available. Gluing the switch together seems halfass when you get a replacement one pretty cheaply, and know it will last. I sell used ones for $10 or so.
robtheflyer- Is there a sufficient amount of refrigerant in the system? If so, then replace the triple pressure switch.

thanks r240 I'm gonna give it a shot, I'll let you know how it works out. yes there was sufficient pressure in the system.

Lovely, so I guess I'll have to get another one out of a '95 with a '94 build date.
Thanks for the clarification.

R240NA, the dryer or the compressor?
I have both, but the drier is used so I wouldn't recommend installing it.
