sup guys i just bought an ASP pulley. But i have a few questions

3 questions.

1. any1 have suggestions/ write ups on changing the pulley? (mostly concerned about the timing and such) ive also searched and read ASP timing marks are off???

2. for those who have done this mod. exactly what size belts do i need ?
i have heard that the AC belt is the same but the others change.

3. Ive heard to change the front main seal also. so ill do this also but any helpful hints or write ups on this??? anything else i should do while im down there>?

Thanks guys youve always been such a big help

If the front main is AOK i wouldnt mess with it.

Um, you shouldnt mess up the timing just changing the pulley, it is keyed to only go on one way. As far as manufacturing imperfections in the marks, I dont know.

Sizing belts: Just get some string, wrap it around where the belt needs go with the tension adjusted halfway. Cut the string, then bring it to an autoparts store, show them that as the length and tell them the number of ribs and you should be good to go.

Read the FSM. All your answers are their minus the misalignment.

I would not run that thing since it not balanced correctly.

If you want a lightweight crank pulley to run correctly, purchase the ATI Pulley.

Woot. This is gnna be fun.

One, breaker bar, secure it, remove fuel pump fuse, crank it.

That'll break it loose, undo the rest, remove it slowly by prying. Theres a metal dowel that is lodged onto the crank that secures the pulley. DON'T LOSE THAT.

Reinstall it in reverse, and you're done. Dowel placement is hard, but don't rush it.

i got a belt that ws 1/2" shorter, but they've got a 1" shorter version too, just ask. IIRC, it was a Gates belt.

Last, I dnno. haha.

The marks on my pulley were kinda halfassed, but DIY timing worked out fine.

The OE crank pulley isn't balaned either, nor does it have a balancer, it's just a rubber damper to soften the engagement of the A/C compressor clutch.

why does this seem like a bad idea to me^^? seriously nothing would be damaged? wow. you may be right but wow.

No i dont have air tools but everything ive done to my car has been without them.

And the pulley puller is necessary right? Thanks guys doing it tomorrow.

It works to do it that way. I just put mine in gear with the parking brake on and used a big breaker bar. Worked good for me.

It should be noted to place the breaker bar under the frame rail so it rotates up and hits it, not somewhere else under the hood that could do damage. I don't condone that method, but it does work in most cases. Sometimes though, you end up wedging the bar into the pavement and standing the car up like a jack. I've seen it happen on an old 22R Celica. When that happens you're seriously screwed.
