EDIT: READ THE LAST POST...I THINK I FOUND THE SHOCK I NEED.

I'm not sure exactly which coilovers these are, or how to take the assembly apart.

I did some online research and emailed Bozz in Haywayd(~30 mins away) a rep. they said they can order the part(s) necessary for a rebuild. He didn't give me an idea of how much it would cost for parts or labor. But they said it would take about 2 weeks to finish everthing

About how much am I looking at for a rebuilt front coilover? Would I be able to rebuild the coilover with basic hand tools?

Here's the coilover. It looks like the boot was pinched and debris nicked the strut rod and broke the seal.

I just took the assembly out and will look for more local shops(bay area) that can rebuild it. If I get enough responses, I will be back with an update(s).

thanks for reading

Damn that shit exploded in your wheel well  ...I guess it's good that I'm anal about cleaning my coilovers

See if you can get a whole new strut cartridge, and if you can, you don't have to rebuild anything, just remove the old one and screw in the new one. You should contact a Cusco dealer to see if you can order the strut without the mounts, hardware, etc.

Since you are in the bay area, you probably have the best suspension people around the country. You have lindehman shocks in campbell, aftershocks in palo alto, and I think hare racing, if they are still around in santa clara. Check with them, but they do custom valving and stuff on AMA race bikes all the time. Call them up.

I'm waiting for a call back from the place I picked up the coilovers.

He says I might be able to get them rebuilt for about $100 by some shops in Socal.

Aftershocks!!!! Call them ~ they do the best cheap race valves in the biz, trust me. Let us know what they say. Oh, and $100 for a rebuild is a good starting point if all you're doing is tearing down a pair of dampers and putting new seals in ~

My friend has some cusco comp 2r(or whatever they are) and he thought they were blown so he called up the cusco distributor in LA(I think) They told him that they dont rebuild or even send it back to cusco jp. What they do is just buy a new strut, and move the springs, etc. to the new strut.

I didnt know other suspension places rebuild after market struts. I have Tein HA's and had to get the fronts rebuilt. But I drove on it so long that the side that blew out had to get a new piston and valves. It cost me $140 each side + shipping from Tein.

...dropped it off at aftershocks today. they said they're backed up 2 weeks with so many customers. Once he finds out the parts he needs(about 1 week), they will give me a call. They're saying it will cost about $60 to rebuild.

I'm looking at $270+shipping for a new strut from Cusco through a US distributor.

The guy that works there says he does Miatas and can rebuild the shock. I hope we can track down the seals for the rebuild.

...so busy, they won't finish for atleast another week. They're telling me that they haven't located the parts for the rebuild.

Can someone help me figure out if the 075-040-004 shock is the right one for my 1993?

I'm seriously conisidering buying a new shock from japanparts.com, but I'm not sure if these are the right shocks.

http://www.japanparts.com/db/partslist.php?dealer=5&car=81&middle=3&small=9

There's only 3 models of Cusco coilover I've seen. Set damping, 5 way, and 5 way inverted. I have 5 ways, which should be zero2s. japanparts does not list a rear or front shock for the zero2s.

it's been about 3 weeks and still no calls from aftershocks.

i might just pay $300 for a new one from cusco la. :-/

aftershocks finally called back and just said they can't get the rebuild parts.

it's either...

$300 for a new shock that would come in about 2 months

$450 for a new shock that would come in about 1 week

or buy used front coilovers

or someone that lives in japan helps me out!!! if someone from japan can ship a new shock to me it would probably save me about $100. :mepoke:

japanparts.com seems to have the shock i need.

the problem is that they only have 1 zero2 coilover listed for s13s...

075-040-005

does anyone know where i can get the part number for the front cusco zero2 shocks?

it seems to be the front because the shocks for rear should say "For Double wishbone multi link, Repair parts".

I NEED SOME INPUT PLEASE! if i found the right part, it not so bad at $275 shipped within 10-15 days.
