likes: fabrication, welding, dyno tuning
dislikes: everything is cheaper online, and everything i can buy online i can install myself instead of paying ridiculous install prices. moreover, the sales guys at every shop in town don't know what they're talking about, and are jackasses.

hahah yo man Im from MA too so i guess my complaints are there are no speed shops lol...main dislike is the lack of shops that keep quality stuff in stock so many parts places around with cheap ass altezzas and no name exhausts in stock....as for actual garages you should check out DSG in norwood. I like them because theres only like 3 or 4 of them, theyre all really skilled, know what theyre doing, you can also order stuff from them and its easy to get in touch with them....check them out thats how the ideal garage/shop should be run
thats my biggest dislike about any garage or shop period..when you call and call and call and it takes half the day for someone to answer the phone
Another MASShole in da house!
Speed shop in MA... lol I seriously just fell on the floor. I agree with everything eastcoastS14 said. Never been to DSG but heard good things.
Just build your own speed shop. This is what I plan on doing. After working on and racing formula cars, I have learned it's better and much cheaper to just do it yourself.
I am in the planning stages of building a 30x42' shop at my house. 2 post lift, setup scales, drill press, welder, blah blah. I am building it myself so it will take some time but I figure I will be ready to rock n roll by late fall.

I like the fact that the shop that I go to is ran by honest, caring people. They actually give a shit about my needs and do what they gotta do to get me good prices on parts, builds and tuning time. LDL SpeedShop FTW!

local shops don't have regular employee's or hours, same guy never works on your stuff twice, will take pictures of your stuff and post it as their own work (eg. you get a retune on your 240. they take a pictures on the rollers and say "we just got done finishing up with a fully built SR engine'd 240 that made 450HP" they imply they built the whole thing from scratch but my bill was only $100.) take forever to answer the phone. don't keep anything in stock and the stuff they do is ungodly expensive. $20 per 2.5" silicone coupling. $12 per tbolt clamp. $65 for a HKS SSQV steel weldon flange. even when you support the "local guy" when he's competitive price wise. Took 4 weeks to get something in that was supposed to be instock. dyno time is 3 week wait although it sits every day. (that's cause the kid who "knows how to work the dyno" is going to college) again regular staff.
my speed shop is my garage, we don't have any here. Closest dyno is hybridynamics in PA.

Likes; Nothing really.
Dislikes; No free parts, don't carry anything good, shitty pricing (I could live with it but they don't carry anything but Rotas/Sportmax/Megan shit), etc.
I'm talking about 80% of shops in the US.

I've been to DSG they're cool guys, and 10 mins from my house. I'm actually looking into whether it would be worth my time to branch out into the aftermarket automotive industry. We do some every once in a while and it looks like it will be worth it. We pride ourselves on the work we do...
more opinions please...:naughtyd:

i wanna hear about the east cost shops??
in my opinion this place called t&r speed shop on merik blvr is pretty good. they deal alot with rx 7's and stuff but they helped me with some wiring problems with my sr swap. and this other speed shop called ss speed shop on atlantic ave is the best for boring and sleaving blocks
any other east coasters??
ive decided to not even try to find good ones in the hartford ct area. every time someone else touches/works on my car for whatever reason (i hate doing that and seldom do) i feel like i acted like an idiot by not SEARCHING and doing the shit myself. there are somethings that need it like engine rebuilds, but every time its just some bullshit. people act like they know wtf is up and really show that they dont, they make you pay rediculus prices like farzam said, and usually the work is decent quality at best.
case in point, dont let others touch your car, and order your own damn parts. you can find em i swear.

MA-Motorsports? JE import performance?
but yea, most shops charge out the ass for parts and labor and thats the only gripe i have. but sometimes if you know the work they do is good, its worth to pay the price and have it done right once rather than two or three times.

Speed shops are all the same if you ask me, they are cool with you only when you spend a shit load of money with them.
My dislike of my local shop: they were cool when they first started out, down to earth dudes, but now got a big heads after they "blew up" and went mainstream.
My like: they have alot of stuff in stock
but I still rather give my money to Aspec since they carry better quality products and arent as cocky

well my local guys is a tried and tru bracket racer and engine builder since he was 10 or 11 years old his whole family races something from hooters cup cars to 7sec full drag to dirt racers. he stocks a ton of msd, holly,an lines nitrous, u see where im going with this lol its a all domestic shop. he actually has great prices as far as gauges and lines and race calipers are concerned. but his knowledge is slim to none on imports. hear is the big plus he has a dynopack in his garage and is a neighbor of 2 houses down. and as long as u throw him a few bucks u can tune your personal vehical. he laso has a full fab shop and engine dyno if necessary. does a ton of port and poliish head decking boring ect ect. so it has its ups and downs. but finding a good import shop is quite hard either they push parts hard or they are so dedicated to having good stuff and stand behind their work they end up shooting themselves in the foot because no one will pay a premium 4 the quality they give.

There's a few shops in my area. One is just a small business run by one guy out of his house, he's a cool dude, doesn't have much for suppliers and products though. One hardly even talks to you if your vehicle isn't a domestic (yet they advertise they handle imports). Another is a club of asshat ricer kids who will rev at everything they come up beside at a light. The last just opended up, I met the manager (actually offered me a job. lol) seems like a cool guy, and his supplier and product line up is by far the best, and is the only one in town that stocks any JDM parts. I'll probably start taking, what little business I actually don't take care of myself, to them.

I only visited one or two shops back in az
Fueled performance and Densetsu.
todd is a friend so I never have a problem with him and his work is amazing (fueled) too bad he only sells cars now.
densetsu has even more friends down there and I know they are legit and value me as a customer/friend. ray is cool and ben knows his stuff.
used to help a up and coming shop (caliente) but they still have a ways to go, rich and his shop SRD was exploding
tuning? heard UMS is good but I met and spoken with the guys at dynocomp so I am split between the two.
when I left a lot of new shops were popping up and the older shops where starting to expand more (intense, pitstop, tokyospeed pro's) and some others never learned and still cater to the highest price (vivid)
where I am at now? ehh spl is up in austin... other than that I really dont know many shops down here or met anyone with them.
