so ive noticed a weird noise when TURNING RIGHT on long CURVES...it makes a hummming noise. when turning left on long cruves its quite as a dead cat.. ive searched and read about it could be the wheel bearing. i jacked the car up and shook the wheel..and found no play...is there suppose to be alot?? i also checked the bushings, everything looks good.

so if i have this problem making long right turns...is it the driver side wheel bearing that could be going bad?? i assume since that side is getting pressure put on it.

car is a s14 SE with ABS

i appreciate it if you guys could give me a few pointers.. thanks.

I'd probably suggest JDM wheel bearing if you have to replace them. they never go bad. :bigok:

Surprising how your rep is so high with a comment like that.

To the OP: Take the wheel and rotor off, it's hard to diagnose a damaged bearing with everything bolted on. Check for axial play as well fore/aft movement, and listen for any noises when it's turned, loose and under load (pull on one stud to 'load' it while turning). Retorque the axle nut for the hell of it too.

Don't cv joints make noises while fully turning when bad?

Yes, and that's another possible cause, however it's much less common. If the bearing checks out, then it's obviously time to move further back into the car and find the problem.

iv got the same or similar problem. mine gets louder the faster i go but only gets so loud its not ear death. it stops when i hit road dips and big cracks, and when i turnt he when so much either way. i was thinking mine sounded like the axle or somthing neding greased up. im gona try andcheck my grease things on the driver sdie where the noise is coming from and i will get back in this thread incase its the same problem. my noise at first i thought was a whining. now with the windows up, music down taking it easy i hear it more of a thingh like if you take a metal pipe and put it in a slightly bigger pipe without grease and spin it around kinda like heeeeeeccchhhh

Did you check your wheel bearing? Like R240na said, you'll want to start with the most common roblems first, than work your way from there

usally if its the wheel bearings it will make a clicking/cracking noise. corey240 that def. sounds like your wheel bearing.

^^yeah and autozone has rears for 116... they don't even carry the front
IIRC front ones are unserviceable. Meaning you can't just change the bearing cuz they are welded in... you have to change the whole hub assembly

Welded in?

S13 fronts are serviceable, just press out and replace. The S14 fronts are not however.

The front wheel bearings are just press in, the Bower part number is 510031, and i wish wheel bearings were 10 bucks...

phone auto stores and tell them to change that number up if they don't carry bower. just phone shop... Will save you time and gas.

I doubt you have a press that is powerfull enough to press them in.

I just went and got new front hubs when mine went bad . . iirc the press is a few thousand lbs or so . .

Any regular hydraulic press can do bearings like cake. You must be thinking about some kind of hand held deal.

Yah I think autozone doesn't just carry the bearing it self. I think it might include other things with it. If it was my deal, I'd just go to a junkyard or a person you know that just did an SR swap and just bum the whole assembly off him or something hahaha....
