so its a tach integrated into a boost controller? thats kinda cool

atom
06-06-2007, 08:34 PM
It's not a boost controller, Sard RD-1 is more like a cheaper, slightly less configurable Stack dash display.

Call me stupid but anything Sard is cool. :)

The car is actually my S13 coupe that Im retiring to track usage only. It will be going under some major renovations over the next couple months including:

-SR fully built and assembled by Garage Works in Palmdale
-Tomei 256 cams
-Tomei cam gears
-Tomei valve springs
-Tomei metal headgasket
-JWT valve guides
-CP Pistons
-brand new stock rods/bearings, etc
-Apex'i Power FC
-Tomei 740cc injectors
-GT2871R turbine

-Full custom cage by WrongWay SPL (AKA Henry Schelley)
-paint by Makito @ BOSO Garage
in Gardena
Not much to see as of yet, but Ill post up as we get more progress.

where do you get that sard/stack piece? how much?

We sell the Sard cluster at West Covina Nissan, MSRP is $1586 I believe. If you're interested Ill see what kind of deal I can work out for you. The black faced ones are in stock in the warehouse. I grabbed the last white faced one today, not sure when more are coming in.

Yes, I went to Cullen @ GW on recommendation by Dousan. I met Cullen for the first time last weekend. Very down to earth guy, he really knows his stuff. I did a lot of research with various shops, people, etc and narrowed it down to Garage Works.

From riding in Lindsay's car when he still had his S13 w/S14 SR built by Garage Works and seeing Dousan and Steven in action I was sold.

the FKs... they are just the same clear/red tails you see everywhere made by Junyan. They were at Kure International, so I just snagged them. Ill post pics of them on Monday.

As for the turbo, .64 A/R and havent decided on manifold yet, I might use stock or get something nice. I really dont see any aftermarket ext mani being worth buying except the Full Race.

agreed, if I can get one here before the motor is done Im going to put one in and just sell the Cusco flywheel. We'll see what happens I still have a bit of time.

Justin, I don't know how I missed this thread. Your car is going to be so damn awesome. I'd kill for some craft mirrors. I was so tempted a few months back when someone on here had some for sale. What clutch you gonna get? RPS max 6 puck is nice and so are Exedy Stage 2 three pucks.

Make it home alright saturday night? I fell asleep like 20 times driving home. Northridge is too far for my blood. Damn charlie.

Yeah brushguards, window visors, wheels and maybe step rails. Im trying hard not to do too much to it.

Most likely Exedy Stage 2 since they are typically sitting on the shelf. They seem to work well for most that use them.

Yeah... Sat night, Northridge is way too far from home but at least his GF's friends are cute :)

Why did you pick those cams if you don't mind me asking?

Well I actually wanted 256/264 since Im going for response and Tomei only makes 260, not 264 so I figured it would be close enough and Id try it.

Koopa Troopa
06-19-2007, 01:44 AM
I can't remember a time my RPM's ever dropped below 4000 while driving.. I'd have just gone with a solid head, double valve springs and 270 or 280 cams. You'll have a valve train that'll go to 10K after that. Then all you need to to work the lubrication system and you'll have all the sr's problems eliminated.

That's just what I recommend. The 256 pon cams are great cams but they won't go too far after the stock redline.

10k redline? waste of goddamn money
8k is more then enough.

probably
but spend at least another 3k+ on a trans
cheapest is that company in austrilia
hks ones require constant maint/rebuilts

shits a waste of money.

there are other options under 3k, including straight cut gears and a z32 tranny upgrade.

It all depends on what your doing.

8k Redline is just fine for most apps.

I rev to 8 all the time, make sure the head is shimmed as close to 0 as possible and everything is the motro is balanced, and RAS are installed. No worries.

Solids are great for drag racing setups with large compressors or race boxes and custom gear boxs

ps. its possible to shift from 3rd to 4th shifting at 8800 ive done it a couple times on stock g.box ;)

Good thing I don't use an SR tranny but maybe his mission (wrong oil, lack of oil, etc.) was just shitty.. I've got a friend who was shifting at 9500 on a stock sr tranny but then again he was blowing them every other month....

Larger powerband, important for cars with large cams. My T04S won't hit max boost till 4500... If I redline at 8 then that's maybe 3,000 rpms of useable power... If I can rev to 10 then I've got a little more room for fun....

Parts still trickling in... the motor should be finished any day now. Since Ive pretty much beat up the SOHC down to its final days it will be pulled soon and the stitch welding will begin.

Another toy, being test fitted. Disregard the dirtiness from Buttonwillow last weekend.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h238/crazyikimasho4/CFBpillar.jpg
Carbon Fiber B pillar from Kognition Design, very good fitment and looks awesome.

I also picked up a carbon fiber guage cluster delete panel that Mike @ Kognition custom cut for my Sard display. Ill take pics once I get it fitted. :)

Later this week carbon fiber canards from Vertex USA will be arriving as well for the front bumper.

I should have pics of the cluster setup this week once I adjust the panel a little. Im thinking about adding an additional boost guage later on the panel since there's room left. Kinda like you did... we'll see.

The car is going to be silver, most likely using the paint code from my truck and fine tuning it a little.

The SS kit is taking forever, Ken is being really picky about fitment. He wants to find a perfect S13 to do adjustments on the bumper with. So we'll see. My JP front bumper is almost done from Buttonwillow so Ill be needing a new one soon.

I grew up in NC, never heard of it called pork pullin. Back when I was there we used to have huge grills on trailers that we cooked full pigs on over night, it was still a BBQ to me.

Here in SoCal we mix it up... carne asada, kalbi, burgers... whatever. Thats how we roll. Thats what makes SoCal awesome we have everything.

Its setup so that the tach is dead center. I have room on the left to add a larger boost gauge or something should I choose to do so. Ill have to take the cluster out of the car and try test fitting everything this weekend.

how many meters do you plan on running all together other than the ones available on the Sard unit and boost gauge? Or just have the two you said and leave everything else to the RD-1?

Im thinking probably just analog boost to have something easier to read for boost. We'll see though, trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Wow, that actually looks pretty sick. Extra room for more stuff too. How heavy is the meter btw?

Ill have to find a scale to weight it, its kinda heavy for a meter though to be honest.

They were designed for function first, looks second. It just happens to have a nice dry carbon finish. The foam core between the top and bottom laminates is actual aircraft foam core. It has a 300 degree service temp, and is flexible and tough. It is without a doubt, the best material money can buy for this application. We recently made a batch of blank panels for a major F1 team in Europe. They of course do their own in house machining because everything they do is so competetive and proprietary. We sent samples out to all of the F1 teams awhile back, and generated some interest in our blank stock. Our blank panels are easy to dremel out for custom work also.

I don't remember if I ran them or not. That weekend is still a blur. I think I might have ran them for a little but then decided to repaint them about halfway through the event. I don't know, maybe they would've come out better if there was a decent spray paint selection in Goldsboro at 4am.

A little over 25mm that the wheel needs to come out to be flush
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h238/crazyikimasho4/fendertopview.jpg

An idea of what it will look like with everything mounted
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h238/crazyikimasho4/fenderrearview.jpg

To keep the front fender from flopping around and to hold it in place, a new OEM fender bracket was added at the bottom
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h238/crazyikimasho4/frontfenderbrace.jpg

According to AIT, these front fenders are 30mm over, I think they're more like 20mm. Regardless with my 17x9 +12 up front and about 2 degrees of camber with slight toe in, the wheels are just about flush on this side. The steering wheel is turned slightly to the right in the pic.

Purdy.

I need to learn how to weld.

And paint.

I know how to do neither of those. :)

Henry @ WrongWay did the welding, Makito who has a shop in Santa Fe Springs did the body prep/engine bay painting.

I put ES ones in a while back. I will be putting in one of these aluminum steering bushings in as well though http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/phase2motorsports_1965_107618013

This is only the interior/engine bay color. The exterior will be silver instead of grey. The pics and flourescent lighting in the bay make the color look much brighter, in person its darker.

your doing alot of teasing here Jus:rant2:

After you inspected it and signed for it did you wipe off any liquids you may have left on the kit?

Make sure you do.

No need for an overnight miracle.

Rome was not built in a day. I think the progress is great considering the quality parts and work going into the car.

Aiming for the end of the year, we've had to focus all our resources on getting the site launched and currently working to make it function well so the car has been on the back burner for the past month or two.

The engine is assembled minus accessories, so I need to go pick that up. The car is being moved down to a body shop that is spraying it for us then hopefully I can get the motor dropped and the car back to Henry for the remainder of the fabrication.

I wish I could get the car together in time, dont see it happening. The car will most likely be on display for the Nissan Festival in Fontana at California Speedway. I don't foresee it running at that time though. :(

Yeah I wish it was simple as that. Right now the car is at the body shop, as for what goes on once it returns, there are some other issues beyond my control that may take a bit longer. Still actually many more parts that need to be purchased as well to make the car run.

In due time my friends, in due time. It will all come together just not as fast as I would like.

This paint shop affiliated with the dealership, they do a lot of our reconditioning.
