hey guys.. just did my clutch swap a few days ago. I put in the exedy hyper single. Everything seemed cool for a little while.. but after about 50 miles of driving a terrible clunking started to happen. It is speed oriented, not engine rpm. It happens past mid 30mph when the car is in gear, and foot is off the gas. In neutral and under acceleration, everything is alright. During the swap, I split the DS in half. The driveshaft is clocked right, the 4 driveshafts bolts are tight, the 4 bolts for the crossmember are super tight, and the 2 nuts for the tranny mount are tight as well. Where could I have gone wrong with the install, or what might have broken? Any explanations? Everything was cool for a little while.. now this shit ass clunking noise.. HELP!!!

Best way is drive next to a wall with a friend and see if he notices it from the front our the rear of the car. Rear means diff, front means clutch. Can you feel the clunking in the shifter? check your center bearing that holds up the drive shaft as well. Otherwise put it on a lift and listen to it...

well.. the sound became a lot worse. sounds like its coming from the diff, by the rear axle.. i wish i had a spare lying around. could it be the bearing???

does it sound like its coming from one side in the rear
gets faster (and fainter) with speed?

lie on your back and grab the rear axle with your hand
twist it back and forth to see if it makes the same clunk you hear

see.. thats what has me all fucked up.. it only happens when the car is slowing down in gear and past about 30mph.. soo... partial throttle/no throttle and in gear i can hear a terrible clunking. the sound seems to be coming from the passenger side of the diff. i dont want to crawl underneath my car too far to check in case it decides to wobble off the jack stands haha. im going to check for play today. i hope to god its only an axle.

im thinking..whatever it is, i hope i dont have to tear out the diff.
diff shafts
axle
bearing

yeah it could be unrelated to your driveshaft.

I mean i can't hear it myself but make sure your diff kneck (front two bolts that hold diff to car) have collars/washers so that the kneck doesnt clucnk or fall off the car.

just another thing to chekc

this all happened after i did my clutch.. but.. since the DS is clocked properly, it cant possibly be that. when i was lowering the car with my jack, it decided to slide and the rear wheel nailed the concret.. is it possible something got tweaked? shit.. blahhh where do I start..

I too have some clunking issues in the drivetrain. I resolved a rear clunk with some searching on Zilvia and purchased some Aluminum subframe spacers. After a few days of enjoying a clunk free 240, I noticed another rotational clunk. Only happens when I really get on the gas. I was thinking it might be an axle/bearing, just seems weird that it happened after I installed the subframe spacers.

did you try my suggestion?
you dont need to jack up the car to check.
just lie on your back and reach in with your hand
