Hi, names Matt and I'm 16. I've always want a skyline, I think thats about everyone's dream but then i discovered reality. Anways I'm thinking realistically and want to build an ultimate 240 kouki. I'm currently trying to find one lol and have been looking since last year. A 97 or 98 would be good I don't like the whole round headlights of the zenki. I've learned my lessons in who to trust and who not to trust when dealing with buying cars (almost been scammed twice lol). I've been inspired (kinda sounds gay) by 240's on the skylineking website. I don't understand anything about the engine components, mods, etc. I know in a few years after working on my kouki (if I even ever get one) I will have some basic knowledge. I want a 240 with a s14 sr20 blacktop because it's the most simplest sr20 to put into a kouki/zenki 240. Then i read somewhere about how the s15 sr20 is alot better than the 240 in the long run and can handle more under tougher conditions. Others suggested to some guy, to get a rb25 installed in his 240 but I thought that was just some "mystical" swap since it seems like a pain in the @ss to do and would require a lot of work. I found this one kouki with a 180sx blacktop, and found that the car was illegal to drive on the streets. I understand that japanese smog regulations is different from US's smog regulations but I wanted to know how I can make a kouki legal with a sr20det whether it being a s14 sr20 or s15 sr20 or even a rb25. And I found another kouki just today with a s14 sr20det blacktop swap and was really interested in purchasing it but didn't know if it was legal to drive on the streets. I don't know how so many people have sr20 swaps and get away with it. I know this may sound dumb but i thought that they may have to swap back their ka24 before the smog test and then they put back their sr20. Because I imagine if you were to swap a sr20 and modify it to regulate under CA's smog regulations you would have a crappy and "non-potential" engine. What other laws would I have to follow in order to pass all those smog tests and is it only smog I have to pass or other laws (heard of something called DOT laws???); if you guys can give me some tips and answer the question above that would help alot. I know most of you guys have been modding your "babies" all your life so hopefully you can hand it down to another (soon to be) 240 owner. [sorry for writing sooo long but hopefully you can help me out I wish I could write more but for right now those are my top questions that keep running through my mind, btw I live in the OC just to let you know because I know different states have different requirements]

Fuck.

Even when I was 15 I wasn't making posts this dumb.

From what I could comprehend from that big block of bullshit text you call a post:

Everyone that owns an SR/RB powered 240sx in California drives their car illegally. They bypass the smog laws, and I'm not going to bother telling you how.

I hope you have a wealthy family, because Kouki's are fucking expensive to track and mod.

You obviously know nothing about S-chassis. My advice, and this is DAMN good advice: Just stop posting and read this forum and every piece of 240sx tech info you can find on the web for a few months so you know what your getting into.

In the meantime save your $...

this will get locked but fuck it Im bored

you cant make an sr20 legal in Cali, those who are driving swapped cars just dont get caught and if they do get caught and they send you to a state ref supposedly you can just pay a fine...search "ref tickets" on here and youll find threads

RB swaps were rare a couple of years ago but they are way more common now

if you say you have no knowledge of cars or mods etc then id stay away from a swapped car before you gain some knowledge, and even still once you learn about your car and your KA engine Id go KA turbo. You can make just as much power as an SR with a KA go to KA-T.org for more info

PM me if you have more questions cause threads like this will probably get locked

Damn, I can't even read that. My brain simply refuses. Try using dome sort of paragraph structure next time and just read and read before posting.

I think everything you asked in that block of disgustingness has been answered many times over.

Welcome to Zilvia. Search to find answers to your questions before you make a post, and if you do make a post, try and make it a little more structured and pleasant. Maybe somebody will read it then.

I hope you like cinnamon tictacs =/

Do you have money? If not, stop right there. Nothing is worse than dreamers who can't back it up.

You're trippin off needing more power when you don't even have a 240 to know how much power a stock ka has.

Lastly, read the Legal JDM thread. That should give you some hopes with your dream build...

Give the kid a break, he's 16 and just getting started and from what I can see he has read up on the 240. We were all 16 once, I think a lot of you guys forget that.

My suggestion Matt is to start with something cheaper to own, build some experience with cars, then jump into the 97 Kouki, I'm almost 27 and can still barely afford to keep this car (see my sig). I learnt all I know today from owning a 92 DSM (owned it when I was 21-24), its certainly cheaper to own that my 97 kouki. Try an older car for now and don't waste it all on a car.
