The KA block is iron. No matter how bad you want an aluminum block you're SOL. Get that retarded shit out of your head right now.

KA-T='s Stay with the Iron block much more stronger if you use alluminum chances are you will blow it up pretty bad.

if i may ask...why would you want an aluminum block??? ka blocks are cast iron. heavy yes but strong as hell. nearly bulletproof.

Iron block vs Alum....

when it comes down to it if your going to throw a rod you will have the force whether you like it or not, for that rod to go thru the block.

Thats just my general statement with that debate.

AMS > Tophat

I ordered their advanced kit about 2 months ago for my build. Took about 4 days to get. Everything worked out great.

Also Chris from AMS is a great help.. he will answer any questions that you might have.

G-dimension built my motor with the AMS kit. They did a good job, but they took awhile..

Nowhere near bulletproof. I put a rod through my KA block. All it took was a spun bearing at 7000 rpms. :keke:

my junk car rod knocked to explosion at 4000 rpm. the hole was big enough to pull the bent up conrod out. NOT bulletproof.

that said, AMS > Top hat

and yes i've been there. it sucks.

how many blown engines were the fault of the block itself? how many more would there be if the block was aluminum. i'm guessing zero on both. if a rod snaps and starts bouncing around, no block is going to live through that.

with that said, there are no commercially avaliable aluminum blocks so it's a moot point.

Yeah, the only block i've heard of failing is the AMS drag block and that was VERY high horsepower and bored cylinder walls AFAIK

I have the built shortblock from AMS. I am so happy with it.
Yes, it was pricey. But the piece of mind is worth it. They know what theyre doing.
I know my block is going to be solid up to 500hp.

and you bumped long-dead thread. booo

anyways, just cus a block is bulletproof doesn't make it rod proof. i bet it'd do just fine if you shot it with a gun

If this is a dead post, then why are you replying to it?

Back to the problem at hand,I'll take your advise. My block has 206,000 miles on it.There is nothing wrong with the block. Is it a good idea to just do a full rebuild with it or should I just spend the extra money and buy a new block and head for my ka?:rl:

If every thing is within tolerance I don't see why you couldn't rebuild it. It will cost you three times what a new motor costs to have it rebuilt, so if you can find one in good shape I would buy it.

Based on what? Rings, bearings, and gaskets will run no more than $400. Unless you're swapping for forged internals, that's cheap.

I was assuming worst case scenario, like out of round cylinders or something. But if it's not that bad and he has the ability, go for the rebuild.

Oh, and don't forget the cost of little unexpected things along the way. Really I would buy a used engine to throw in and rebuild the old one in the mean time.
