View Full Version : 6 x 9's in the rear deck of a s13 coupe
a pair of them came into work the other day and im having a lot of work done an my stereo soon...
anyone done this??? is it gonna be hard...
i've bought the tweeters for the dash, and the MB's would go in the rear, then i'd get a set of good crossovers (found some nice kenwood excelon ones, eventhough i hate kenwood), and another set of good tweets for the a-pillar...
i'm having my trunk and doors deadened as well...
all in one shot when i get the stuff, could be as soon as 2 weeks...
feedback..

ya, I was thinking of putting 6x9's on the rear tray also.
volkswagon golf's have them in the tray. it's just when you remove the tray you have to disconnect the speakers.

yeah, they'll work. I have my 6by9 in the hatch. If you look underneath the hatch, the distance between those 2 metal supports are perfect for the speakers. And i have couple kenwood excelons 3way back there.. they never miss a beat.. high notes and low bass!
Dont get 4by6 in the front, they suck
I did this on my old hatchback and it sounded awsome! Its pretty ez once you get the holes marked up and cut out.

Take off the plastic trim to get access to the metal bracket and then hack away until they fit. You never see them anyway. How much deadner do you need if you haven't already bought it? The cheapest place to get it is www.b-quiet.com The sell both sheets and a liquid deadner. The sheets are for flat areas and the liquid is for odd shaped areas. What kind of tweeters did you get? I may have a set of mb quart x-overs I may be selling. They are the musicomps (clear covers) I also have a set of door pods for 6 1/2's and some 4's I might part with. Make it a package deal. Another good place to look for x-overs and odd parts is www.partsexpress.com i know they are selling off some old soundstream stock with is REALLY good equipment. I run soundstream amps. I also run mb quart mids.

I have 6.5" in the door of my s13
idunit...
actually the tweets are generic, the ones i just got anyways, they came into work and i noticed them, they are mounted on a nice little turret where i can actually swivel the whole tweeter up and down and siide-to-side, i picked em up for $20 canadian... i'm gonna mount them on my dash...
i looked into crossovers, i found a really nice set of kenwood excelon crossovers for cheap but i'll work'em down, probably like $50 for the pair, i can wait on those, they aint going anywhere....
a nice set of MB 6x9's came into work and if the crackheads dont come back i can get them for definately less than $50, probably less, maybe $40...
i want them in the rear deck because my bostons are a few years old, though they are still good, i have infinity 4x6's in the door and im having them capped when i get al this done at future shop where im good friends with the all of'em....
they are gonna deaden the trunk for $350 canadian... includes everything... kit, labour, taxes
the cheapest i found besdies that is $450...
i looked into JL tweets with out bound crosses and they are $150 around here,
the tweets i bought are already crossed, i'll run them with my capped 4x6's, then get a nice new pair of tweets, maybe get the kenwood crosses (but i hate kenwood so i'll have to hide them) and run them with th MB's, i run a JL 12w3 in a custom box and all the amps match... 45 x 4 all into the sub, Bridged into each voice coil... though i might change the way its wired, and two 25 x 2's in to the mids all rms power and it sounds good except i need more highs and i want them to kick me in the face...

Well I know for a fact I'm selling a set of mbquart x-overs. I'll go less than $50 shipped on them and they aren't kenwood, nuff said. How many layers of deadner are they gonna put? What I did was pull the carpet up and too all the trim off and did 2 layers of mat and any joints I did with rubberized undercoating. If you really want a quiet car you can do the last thing I did. Get some packing peanuts and great stuff. The great stuff come in aerosal cans and is a foam inulation. Take off interior panels and spray between them. Just kinda do layers of foam and packing peanuts. Fill about halfway and leave it for a few days. Then go back and fill it the rest of the way. The stuff hardens like concrete and keeps about 90% more sound in. It also makes your car safer. My friend got t-boned in his teg by a fullsize chevy 4x4 doing 65. It pushed him 200 yards up the road and took everything off the truck in front of the doors. My friend stepped out of the car without a scratch.
