Alot of our cars are getting stolen here in Atlanta. And they arent damaging the body or Ignition switch at all when they take em. Im wondering if they are possibly getting keys cut from our VINS maybe?? Is it even possible?
atleast three of our cars were at Formula D, so its possible they could of gotten em all. And if so, Do you think Nissan keeps record?
Maybe someone at a dealership has access to keys

With the year of your car, the keys cannot be cut by VIN number. Its too old to be in the database.
But, to answer your question... in CA all dealers are required to check IDs, verify ownership and keep records on file of any key you make by VIN number.
When my car was stolen there was little to no visable damage to the car or ignition system. However I could take any key and start my car when I picked it up from impound, so the tumblers were jammed in although you couldn't tell by looking.

My s14 key will start my car and 50 other Nissan's with out a problem, Just add the wiggle and pull when turning the ignition on. I drove my friends car with making it look easy.

So you can't order a new key by VIN? How are you supposed to get a new key to copy from then? Mine is almost completely FUBAR'd and I wanted to get a new one to keep as the "master key" so to speak and just make copies and use those.

Well I tell you this... There was an S13 coupe at this tow yard. And it seems like all these cars are getting stolen from Malls around here. Weird.

^shit like thats always seems a little sketchy to me...just so happens the camera's where that car is at doesnt work. kinda wierd. but the whole key thing, i think is possible i know for a fact that that can be done with a few other brands of cars.

my firends car got jacked at a mall also and security guard said the camera spins in cirlcles so they not sure if they got the image....why do they even have security????
but yeah about the key thing. most of them just need to be shaved down a bit and it should fit in the ignition and fire up. get your alarms before anything guys. its a dangerous world =[. i got my alarm on amazon for a good deal so maybe you can check that out.

i asked at the dealership about my car. it's a '95, they said that age was borderline but they didn't have it on file. anything newer will probably be on file, anything older, no.
But, to answer your question... in CA all dealers are required to check IDs, verify ownership and keep records on file of any key you make by VIN number.
it's entirely possible that the thief works at a dealership or a tech is getting kickbacks, and if he steals cars, i doubt he's too concerned about checking IDs.

i dont know shit as far as key cutting goes for Nissans, but i myself can cut the keys to just about any toyota.. save for the laser cut/immobilizer keys...with nothing more than a vin. in the toyota dealer system, the salesman is supposed to write the key kode and input it into the dealership system.. and with a blank key that we do not even keep the qty. stock of, it would take about 2 min to make a key...thats why so many companys are switching to immobilizer keys.. the key needs to be programmed.. i have the vin on my dash and inspection sticker covered up by sticky note to prevent anything like this. supposedly towing companies can get keys made very easily...cover your vins up guys, just to be safe..
