It's a 1992 Fastback SE, 5 speed, 180,000 kms. It's supposedly in great shape, and the dealer is asking $5860 for it. I'm pretty experienced with cars, and have checked out 240s before, but I'm wondering if theres anything in particular you guys think I should pay attention to. Is there any spots on the 240 that are very prone to rust? Anything to check out under the hood? What do you guys think about the price?
BTW, i'm not worried about the KMs, because the KA will only have to last about a year, until the SR goes in! I apologize if this is a common topic, but I couldn't find anything through search, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am wiling to bet he is in Canada, and that is Canadian dollars. He listed mileage in KM's <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nervous.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':nervous:'>
This reminds me of when my friend bought a GTI with his graduation money. Some girl said "But you could have gotten a new Cavalier for that!"
We got a good laugh out of it.
As for problems:
Get it up to high speed for a while. Ride the revs up a few times.
Check for rattles. Find a carwash for leaks. Mostly normall stuff for all cars.
Listen for a rattle when you start it. If you can hear it, you may need timing chain work.
Power windows like to fail.
Check the bushings and look for signs of wrecks. Lots of people wreck these cars.
I can't think of much though.
Good luck.
Oh, if you have a spoiler, look if there is a nice large puddle in the spare wheel well.

yes I know the 180,000 kms gave it away <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
I have to agree with natty on the price. 3500+ is quite a lot for an S13... try to talk it down to 2800 or so, and if not, maybe settle for 3000 if it's in really good shape.

no way the dealer would go down that low. i paid 4000 for mine and there is a little bit of damage in the front. i dont know if there is a difference between monetery value in the us and canada but if theres not definately try to get him to go lower. go to kbb.com and check the value then offer him that. u know haggle with him.

No one mentioned rust under the spoiler??? Hmm weird... well check that out, and lets see... check for leaks thats important too. Make sure the car is in good running condition, and I guess you should be fine. Also try to find some flaws in the car to talk the price down, even in canadian dollars that seems a little high.

well it totally depends where u live if you out west (BC) cars get pricey...they start to get cheap in ontario cuz of all that damn salt, so they rust out like a fat kid on a smartie!!.
....this 3000 talk for an s13??..well where i am, for 3000 you can't even buy a saftied car for that price....me being from canada i don't think thats a bad price, i've seen 93s go for 7500, and thats with NO hicas or anything...you can't compare the US and Canada car market for prices there too many things to account for!! (air care and safties....etc)
what everyone said is right...especially about the rust under the spoiler!! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> ...but if it's in minty shape and u like the way it drives try getting down to 5200 or something try to incorperate the tax and stuff...you know how to play the game... the wholesale cost of my 91 se was 5500...i know cuz thats what i had to pay the tax on!! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('> ..... and usually they go for about a G note above cost
as for the guy who bought his for 2000.....shit!!...good find man

180,000kms isn't even high. My 91 just hit 264,000 and i replaced the timing chains at 263,000kms in October before i parked it for the winter. Nissan quoted me $1,800 for the job and i got it done for $300 canadian <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
Moral of the story: KM's don't matter aslong as the timing chain is in good condition.

haha I got mine for 2250 usd, so can someone be proud of me?? Make sure you double check for the rust, its quite a pain in the ass to fix or replace the hatch from what I've heard.
