View Full Version : Write up to strip an engine

well i started my first engine build and so far im down to a bare block...im waiting on my bearings to get here so i wrote this little write up...

how to strip an engine down to a bare block in 30 steps

i wrote it in like 10 min so i maybe missing something



1) Remove entire engine

2) Remove turbo oil and coolant hardlines and return lines

3) Take off the exhaust manifold nuts and washers making sure you dont lose any

4) Remove entire turbo manifold along with the turbo

5) Take off the alternator along with all of its brackets

6) Take off the fuel rail and its bolts and washers

7) Start unplugging as many of the heater hoses from the intake manifold

8) Remove the upper intake manifold bolts and and 2 nuts on the side

9) Take off the intake manifold

10) Remove all the heater hoses

11) Remove water pump

12) Take off the motor mounts if you want

13) take off the valve cover

14) Remove timing chain tensioner

15) take off the cam sprocket bolts

16) take off the sprockets, let the chain hang or ziptie a wrench to it

17) remove the cam caps in order the FSM states

18) remove the cams

19) take off the rocker arms

20) remove the shims and rocker arm guides remembering the sides

21) remove head bolts how the FSM states

22) remove the 2 inner extra head bolts and 2 outer

23) remove the head

24) take off the crank pulley

25) Remove the upper and lower oil pans

25) remove the oil pump

26) take off the rear main seal

27) take off the crank girdle

28) remove the rod caps

29) wiggle the crank caps until they come off

30) take out the crank

Its not that...Its in the fsm.

but the fsm doesnt straight up tell you...oh well i fail again
