I am here to ask a question on my transmission. I have a weird grinding noise when I go into second gear and sometimes when I go into 3rd gear as well. This only happens when im pushing the car and raising the rpms higher than normal driving and i'm shifting fast into that gear. I thought at first that it was just me and that i wasnt depressing the clutch all the way down before i switched gears, but that wasnt the case. It seems that the reaction of the clutch engagement and disengagement is slow to respond. Could it possibly be my throwout bearing? So guys, any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks- kouvang

Nope throwout bearing is only when you push the clutch pedal in and it makes a sound. Either it sounds like your clutch is going out, or you have a tranny issue. Hope it isn't the latter cause then you looking at a new tranny

Maybe try draining your tranny oil and see if there are any metal flakes/shavings coming out with the oil. If yes maybe start looking for a new/rebuilt/used but in good condition tranny.

aww man... this doesnt look to good... the clutch is actually pretty new.. i would say about 3-4000 miles on it.. Ok, i was listening to my car earlier today to see if i heard anything else and i could hear a humming, like two objects slightly rubbing against eachother, coming from the tranny when i dont have the clutch pedal in, but when i step on the clutch the noise disappears.. Could this be the throwout bearing? i should drain my tranny oil soon.. maybe by the end if next week.. thanks for the help guys.. keep them coming- kouvang

i have the SAME EXACT PROBLEM. mostly in 1st and 2nd, but also when i shift fast on the freeway. i already flushed my tranny at jiffy lube from a friend for free AND added redline. it help a little bit, but problem not solved. there were no metal shavings, and my clutch is NEW, which makes me think my syncros are bad. this is a 95 s14.

Def not the throw out bearing. The throw out bearing contacts the pressure plate when you press the clutch pedal, so if there is no noise when you press the clutch pedal it can't be that. I f it was the TO you would hear a grind when you press the clutch pedal. Prob synchros if clutch is new.
