how many points?

you would have to drill or cut a hole in the panels...

Dousan_PG

yes if u cut the rear panels
front is cool

well i stay on guam wich is pretty close to Japan. my friend is a coordinator for cross 5 japan (japanese car show) and had NKB ship in a whole bunch of parts and a cusco roll cage came in with the order.
i took a look at the cage and the bars are black so im guessing its a safety 21 since cusco is blue.

cant stand the bent front downtubes. i dont even think its scca legal. buddy of mine make them and i weld them in. hes not on zilvia but when production starts rolling this summer i'll have post them up. so far weve got s14 sunroof and non. s13 hatch and coupe and vert.. just dont like the bolt together idea.

Brian
05-25-2007, 11:02 AM
Yeah.... I don't give a shit.

It's gonna work just fine.
These cages ahve worked just fine for the past.... 15 years in Japan?
Yeahhhhh.

Dousan_PG
05-25-2007, 11:09 AM
fuck scca

there i said it.

shit works
ive seen cars flip and be fine w/ those bolt in cage
we arent doing rally on a mountainside
MOST scca events (NOT ALL!!). hi i dodge cones in a huge parking lot at my local stadium. it requires a full cage.
get real.

this is drifting.

hey brian, ustill want that white padding?

IIIXziuR
05-25-2007, 11:19 AM
That Bolt cage in looks clean in there Brian.
I kinda was split between a bolt-in Cusco cage and a SW weld-in.
I think I might just get the cusco considering I don't have a tig/mig welder.

i never said that the safety 21 cage didnt work or was a waste of money. whats so special about overpriced japanese parts. nice to say that you actually built and fabricated something. but i understand you guys probably dont have the time for that and im well aware you guys are the whole drifting thing and not driving through cones. personally ive never been to a scca event and nor do i ever plan on going to one. i was just making a statement. i appologize for talking about something thats in your car, i just stated my opinion. no need to be a dick about it. they are overpriced. only costs about $200 to make a cage that simple but again, you guys probably arent worried about money either. i made the wrong comment to the wrong type of people. excuse me..

Dousan_PG
05-25-2007, 12:23 PM
not being a dick to you
just saying SCCA is full of shit.
are you the SCCA?
no.
did i tell you to eat a dick?
no.

its the internet. dont take it so personal.

i use a s-21
but im going ot go real cage one day again, like my s14 ones
a decent built cage is about 1500 bucks or so...i want chromoly. yes sir.
s21 was like 700ish? u can get used one for 500
pass tech at events. done.
id rather drive then build the car forever.

Brian
05-25-2007, 12:28 PM
yeah, I wasn;t trying to attack you... just the idea in general about these cages and cages in general.

:)

a lot of people freak out about it. OH MY GOD IT HAS A BEND!!!
SHIT DUDE SCCA WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I just wanted something to hold my hands on, to tell you the truth. So the cage is great

ch1873857
05-25-2007, 12:38 PM
no. nothing like that dousan i just dont like the design. seems like id bust my kneecaps open as im a tall guy. besides you cant tie it in to the a pillar when its like that. and i didnt take it personally at all. ive been on these boards long enough to know how you guys are..but brian you make a point. if a 500 cage gets you into the events and serves its purpose. why not? not having to worry about spending days building a cage that you probably wont need. and its actually nice to have your interior.. but i agree scca ftl. it actually looks boring. how fast can you go in a fucking parking lot. oh well. on a sidenote, brian is that 2in diameter piping? you wouldnt know how thick that walls are would ya? just for reference.

Dousan_PG
05-25-2007, 12:42 PM
im 5'11
my friend is over 6'

its no problem.

i know guys who run AUTOPOWER and are taller then that and that cage is the WORST
but its legal.

Brian
05-25-2007, 12:45 PM
Not sure.
There is a hole in the B pillar bar thing to measure thickness... but I don't have a micrometer or something. Actually I do, but I don't care.

:)

ch1873857
05-25-2007, 12:49 PM
haha. didnt think you did..fuck autopower cages. now they are a waste of money.

Hey Brian I was wondering how u did the back bars through the plastic. Did u use a stencil when u cut or did u just estimate???

thanks....

Brian
05-26-2007, 05:53 PM
Oh what is this?
I went and took pictures of more detail?
yes.

I cut the plastic with a dremel. it came out pretty crappy. I wish it was better but then... i dont care. i did this by eyeball, so it was difficult.

I'm getting some more padding and some cusco tape to make it look a bit better.
I took some of those pictures to show how tight it fit against the lines of the body or whatever, and also tried to show where the mounting points are.

I think one day I might get new rear panels and cut them better.... of just take all the interior out.

Nobody goes back there anyways, just wheels and misc. tools and such.

GSXRJJordan
05-27-2007, 01:19 PM
Full interior, to make those wheels/tools feel comfy back there :) lol

Love that cage, and thanks a ton for the good pics Brian - never would have guessed that fitment could be that good with a bolt in cage (used to seeing autopower crap).

Did someone diss SCCA? Can you do that?

S13-Silvia

It kind of looks like you punched the holes out with your fist.

floodo1
05-27-2007, 03:02 PM
hole saws work good for that sort of thing :) probably about 30 dollars for some clean holes :)

Also while im sure a bolt in roll cage like that will protect you if you flip its going to do a lot less for chassis stiffness than a properly fabbed weld-in unit.

Its all good though, not everyone needs a super stiff chassis, or simply rollover protection. Good to see someone post up some detaild pics to help the community out!

brian should get some red vinyl

and put a gremlin or something on his roll bar. like it busted thru the panel

I know some SCCA politics is bull, but that doesn't pass for FD, so its not just parking lot autox, there are rules for a reason, not just to but peoples balls. No other racing allows things like that, why would you trust what drifters in japan do over the rest of motorsports.

Brian
05-27-2007, 09:54 PM
I drift.

I don't do racing or motorsports. sorry.

so let me explain the holes.
I found a random cutter-looking-thing in my dremel box and then just started cutting. It would sort of cut in its own direction a bunch. So I just went with the flow. Don't care.

That really doesn't change what is safe what is safe and what isnt. We go on the same tracks as everyone else and drive with a greater chance of crashing. I understand if its just parking lot events, but road courses have the same risks for drifters as road racers. And its not just the bend around the dash thats the problem, the rear down tubes mount to the fenderwell, which isn't gonna do shit in a rollover. I guess if your rules allow it then more power too you, i just don't see how saying "im a drifter" changes everything.

Dousan_PG

shut up already

rofl. cusco and safety 21 are for parking lots only. fact is, in japan, no one dies from having those cages as opposed to "SCCA legal" cage. get real. don't even make me bust out circa 2002 d1 rollover shit. :-/
