I was just thinking since the KA24 has an iron block I was thinking you could make it less heavier by having an aluminum block made for it. Also, since it would be a custom job, one could have it blueprinted from the start, and maybe some tuning to the water channels for better cooling or relocation of certain parts. I don't know much about the stock weight distribution in the 240 but I believe this would help to balance it out and it would lower to total weight.
I know this would be expensive but compared to an engine swap I would think it would be comparable. What do you think?

Thats what LS1s are for buddy.
Aluminum is for communists and terrorist insurgents. I'm trying to get a titanium KA block made. You in?

Alright so I'll take it that it would be more expensive but this is just speculation.
@atom: I also thought about a titanium block, but it is heavier than aluminum, maybe Ti sleeves for turbo.

Then you would have to worry about sleeves and shit, totally defeat the purpose of having a KA.

Titanium sleves!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAhAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAAHAHAH
that wouldn't last with an aluminum piston with steel rings 5 minutes.

Alright so I made a mistake there, I haven't done much research on the properties of the metals in question. This is all coming off the top of my head.

Just for grins I emailed a couple of shops to see what it would cost to build the block, pretty much the same response from them all.
"We can certainly make the mold and pour the casting.
THAT'S the easy part!!!
The pattern and core boxes would be outrageous.
Assuming that you do not have full drawings for this, we would have to take an existing block and have it sectioned to determine dimensions.
As a wild eyed guess:
Casting @ 100# would be $2000.00
Tooling +$100,000.00
SORRY"

^ bout what I figured. Although it is a very good idea in theory, it just simply wouldnt be worth the money to do. Now if you could convince nissan to do it and mass produce them then you're on to something.
Oh, and your Ti sleeve idea, not really the best idea with aluminum block and the steel rings.

This was a prohibitively expensive (and in such, very bad) idea the first time it came around, that was last year.
What has changed about it?
Nothing, not one thing.
