I just got my GT2871R from garrett. This is a brand new turbo and for some reason it has some shaft play. It has a little bit up and down and some forward and back too. Is this normal for a dual ball bearing turbo because my friend's GT3582R has the same thing too. thanks

VERY SLIGHT play side to side should be okay. What worries me is the forward and back play, our turbo didn't have the forward and back shaft play when first bought.

Garrett manufacturer warranty should cover it if it's defective and brand new.

Yah mines didn't have any movement up and down, back a forth very slight, maybe around 1mm to .5 mm play tops.

Yeah mine's somewhere around there on the back and forth and the side to side play is very slight just wondering is it something i should worry about

Yah it should have 0 side to side. I wouldn't wanna deal with that. Exchange it.

Go to ATP turbo in Fremont and have them look at it. They're garrett authorized dealers and see what they think.

Are you shure you bought it from garrett? well I think you mean from a garrett dealer...

You should have extremely little movement side to side. like 1/16th of and inch from center. I can not remember the exact spec. I have scene many turbos with a bit of front to back movement, more so then with side to side.
