If you read you'd know they are testing probably the DRIVETRAIN- that prototype has nothing to do with how it will look. We dont even know whether they're tuning a suspension set up.
To test the new VQ35DEHRTT and ATTESSA for the new GTR, Nissan used a modified G35c body. Again, fools thought it was just a modded G35 variant and slammed its looks.
Makes sense since Honda's last concept showed us it would be an FR car. The question is whether it will be aimed at the Aston Martin/Ferrari 550 crowd with six digit price tag or aimed at the old Supra price point.
This might be more indication of what chassis they're putting the drivetrain in:

They need to release both...I mean thats what Acura is for right? Two brand names and all. The 599 GTB would make it look like an absolute joke no matter what though. "Daily driver Enzo for adults" Car and Driver

The Acura concept looks terrible, too much like some kinda Batmobile. It also looks like they ripped off the Lexus LF-A concept. I'm not too into these "futuristic" styled cars, companies are making now.

That spy pic looks like it was an s2k lengthened in the midsection, I wonder that indicates more of an MR setup like the original....
I hope so.
Not that I will ever buy one, hahahahaha, would just be cool.

Looking at that test mule it appears it is mid engine. Look at the height of the exhaust and the mid section has been lengthened.
Everything is up int eh air right now with the next NSX. Honda has not announced anything official. Though there was speculation a few months back that the new NSX was going to be a FR GT car. I hope that is not the case.

Test Mule - A development mule or a test mule in the automotive industry is a vehicle equipped with experimental or prototype components for testing. Automakers evaluate aspects of vehicles before a full pre-production car is built to find problems. Mule cars are drivable and may come after concept cars that sometimes lack critical mechanical components.
Mules are often heavily altered and the exteriors may be disguised as current production vehicles or as completely different models. They are most often used very heavily during testing and are scrapped.

I don't get why they always make the prototypes look all futuristic like this when the actual car never ends up looking this way in the end.

Designers jobs are to test the limits of design. You really want to see a concept car that looks 30 years old?
Oh wait, that would be the Mustang, Camaro, PT Cruiser, Beetle, etc.
I for one like future designs. And with today's manufacturing technology they can make production cars look more and more like the concepts.
OptionZero

Because concept cars aren't designed to sell a car, they are designed to sell a brand.
If you are Acura, you want a display that makes people remember Acura after they've left the show. A "production" level car isn't nearly as eye catching as a sleek body, slammed to the ground, LED everything, huge wheels, huge brakes, insane paint, and exagerrated curves.
mRclARK1
05-22-2007, 05:01 PM
^^^Exactly. They want you to remember the company, not the car. Marketing and advertising is all about making people remember a brand. Not neccessairly anything about it or why... cause when someone decides to buy a new car for example, they will do that on their own, if they remember the brand from the advertising.

That exhaust layout mimics the one on the IS-F....I wonder if there is truly an advantage to implementing such a layout.
I hope this car will be a success for Acura and priced reasonable (for its market).

Everyone that mentioned how ugly the s2k looks got a red surprise.
I think easily 80% of concept cars are heinous, but the NSX concept really is indescribably bad.
BTW if you guys look at the test mule you'll notice the hood is bulgy compared to stock s2k hood which makes me think it's front engined not mid.

The same reason the Z looked like that when they first developed it, to acquire interest and speculation in their product - just like what we're doing now.
the Z never came stock with 20" wheels, but it was marketed that it would. it never came stock with a super futuristic interior, but it was also marketed. it never came with LED signals in the mirrors, but it was marketed. it never came with brembos (stock), nor did it originally come with full LED taillamps.. but, it was of course.. advertised that way. the taillamps you see in the above proto never worked (not that i know of), nor did the headlamps.. but either way, its fun stuff that gets peoples attention. and gets people like me to take above photos of.

I never said I didn't like the futuristic designs, it would only be a plus if the finished product could look similar to that, I was just curious.
Thanks for clearing it up for me everyone. :)

That Z concept was damn close to the production model.
Honda is notorious for having concept cars look VERY close to the production model (i.e. '08 Accord). I'm guessing we are going to see one more concept, but the official car debuts.

No shit it looks like an S2k, given that it's an S2k chassis thats been hacked up. You still missed the point that it doesn't matter what it looks like.
Someone should hack up your body and use it as a test mule for an improved brain. Then you'd have an excuse for being so retarded.

Noo, he was just joking that the test mule looks like an S2K limo since it's a cut up S2K chassis made longer, I'm pretty sure Adrian knows what a test mule is, haha.

The New NSX better be packing some major heat under the hood, trunk, whatever. Nowadays the BMW 335ci kicks most old school 90's japanese muscle to the curb stock for stock. It will probably have the performance of the current 911 P-Car with a body that isn't THAT much different then the last gen NSX.
The supercar and upscal sports car market is getting pretty goddamn crowded right now. It will be interesting to see what comes out of Honda's pooper.

You cant really compare any old/new cars on power levels...The only cars that use to be able to even nearly hold a torch to modern car hp levels (not hp/liter) was back when we had leaded gas.

Kinda sad that a car that overheads and gets horrible gas mileage is a better sports car than anything you can buy new for the same green. Light weight, turbo, RWD? What a concept. Its like from the future or somethin gnarly.

It is from the future, and thats part of the problem!! I always forget about those since they are so out of my price range. Super cars for middle class people. They are sooo fun and easy drive it makes me angry. Maybe someday, they are getting ruined awfully quickly though

If you are getting a real sports car, you dont care about gas mileage.
and mine never overheated. Just do some safe mods first.
santacruisin
05-24-2007, 11:20 AM
when you get a bigger turbo for increased performance the gas mileage on FD's can be bad. 8-10 mpg. That's supercar level mileage and performance but the car is old and the engine loves to explode itself.
AN LS1 engine in an FD is like the best of both worlds.

you can see that its still MR.. pretty sure that possibly the suspension and drivertrain is what they are testing.. they probably made the test car look like an S2k so as to not give way too many details on the car they where testing itself..
but if that being the case.. the aerodynamics could be completely different so the results of testing wouldnt be soo good
or maybe it does infact share alot of the s2k chassis/suspension but in a MR lay out..

The exhaust note is interesting....I wonder what this test mule was testing. I'm thinking suspension components and powertrain, the car looked very flat on the track. Anyone else notice the 911 Turbo? Looks like that might be its competitor...which also means its going to compete with the GTR (of course its a given).

Actually the numbers for the PT Cruiser and Beetle have dropped to next to nothing. The Mustang is actually a good bang for the buck and has always sold well. That's the only exception. The Camaro will probably be an exception too.

Question: What sort of person would buy a PT Cruiser?
Question 2: What sort of twisted variant of that person would buy a PT Cruiser convertible?
Question 3: How do these people look at themselves in the mirror each morning? they should be shot.
Same goes for the Pontiac Aztek and anything made by Chrysler or Lincoln

there is a reason it looks shoddy. where i live, i see concept cars/test mules ALL the damn time. kinda get used to it. they all look shitty, then you see them at dealerships 8-12 months later. i dont think its fair to pass judgement right now. way way way to soon IMO.
