Hello-
I am having trouble deciding what type of EMS to get for my setup. A custom flash is around $500 or a APEXI power fc is $700. What do you think i should run? Whats the benifits of each one? Will i be better with a power fc (I can change it later on) whereas a flash Im stuck with whats programmed? My mods are;
Blacktop s13 SR20det
gt30r with log manifold
greddy intake manifold
greddy 1.2mm h/g
greddy RAS
Custom fmic
HKS 264/264 stage 1
Sard fpr
sard r2d2 bov
Sard topfeed fuel rail
RC750cc injectors
255 fuel pump
3" turboback
tial 38mm w/g
Any help would be much appreciated! Also...does anyone know what kind of power I will be looking at? I plan to run a "safe" 15-18psi. I am hoping in the neighborhood of high 300's WHP.
Thanks again!

You kinda answered your own question. Power FC will be a better choice if your going to be constantly doing upgrades to your set up. Plus if your going to spend money on a re-flashed ECU why not just spend that money towards a PFC instead anyways. Spend it right the first time you won't have to spend it again. GL

yeah definatly go power fc, you have only used top notch parts on the 510 so far so you shouldnt stop now. i went power fc and havent looked back since.
as for power, it depends on the specs of your 30r. the log mani might hurt you a bit, but you should still make high 300's on pump. for refrence i make 420whp on a 3076 on 19psi on pump with around the same mods as you. the only thing is that 510 weighs nothing. might i suggest some very sticky tires in the back :)
oh and post some more damn pictures of that thing! i check up on the build thread on evom every once in awhile and have been depressed lately with not much updated. its so close to being done

if you get the d jetro you also have to get the cable to connect the commander to a laptop computer for tuning. There are NO Power Excel dealers in Nor Cal.

out of MD, but PFC dealers, great at tuning them, they'll answer all your questions, etc, etc

pfc if you are going to keep upgrading. If not.....re-flash and fine tune with safc2, less headache, but 500 bucks seems an awful lot for a reflash.

i say ecu flash to be safe...
only mess with the power fc if you got skills or money to pay for someone who has the skills.
just my opinion.

yeah see i am just doing these mods...then leaving it alone. Thats why i figured if I purchssed the PFC id just tune it once. I am not going to built up/add on to this motor any more...it will be plenty for my little car. lol. So if Im not upgrading anymore and all my mods are done is it just safer to do a flash and be done with it? I was looking into entalpy or JWT?

I will get major updates soon... the car is under a major overhaul from fuel system, braking, cooling and suspension.

PowerFC screw ecu flash. With a PowerFC you can learn to tune your car. Plus any dyno tuning shop worth a damn will most likely have experience with them.

Do not lowball the end price of the PFC.
$700 for the unit.
$300 for FCLoggit.
1$$ x 3 hours @ dyno
But, PFC is a better choice, ROM tune is not maxed out by any means.

I did the Rom-tune and I wasnt impressed. Entalphy rom-tunes are koo but unless you physically bring him the car and he does the rom-tune with your car on a dyno, then its pretty much pointless. All it does is to get your car running but no way in hell it will get close to its full potential. If you get a rom-tune, entalphy will recommend you to get a piggy back to fine tune his settings to make it better.
The car I have now is getting a PFC d-jetro installed next month or so and the car currently has a local rom-tune and its decent since they strapped it to a dyno while they rom-tuned it.

Get a power FC don't waste your time, at the end you will end up with a full engine management.

Go with a EFIspecialist tuned ecu
$305... Enthalpy and JWT tunes combined with his own modifications (From what I've heard)
Shouldnt need a SAFC-II to tune it either.. although I guess it wouldnt hurt

Haltech units minus the wideband are almost as cheap as PFC.

I just got a rom tune from CarlH on Nicoclub.com for my rb20det, 110 bucks and the car runs smoother than stock.....safc2 to fine tune on a dyno next week. But yah, best 110 bucks I have ever spent on my car.

You have all that installed with no tunning done yet? are you driving the car?
or are you still installing the parts and waiting for tunning, because you car would be runing like crap if you had big injectors big turbo (all those mods ) withought tunning.
The Gt30R is a big turbo man,if im'e not mistaken its the biggest turbo you can install on a 240 without doing a top mount conversion)please someone correct me if im wrong!!
on 15-18 psi it will give you a LOT MORE than 300hp, more like 450.
are you sure you have a gt30r?

^ I have a log style TOP MOUNT mani(sorry didnt specify) THe car has not even turned over yet...So no, I am not driving it. I wanted to get the ECU tuned before I even started it b.c it probaly wont even idle with all those mods. I forgot to add I have a z32 MAf..dunno if it matters. I think I am going with a flash for now. I just want to get the datsun running!!! AND yes im 110% sure its a gt30r I am shooting for 380-400whp. In a 1900lb car...should be enough

Just wondering with the power FC do you really need the controller ($300) to got with it. I mean if all you want is a better tune than reflash ECU, and have a shop tune it on the dyno. You just want a better tune but have the ability to keep upgrading and have a reputable shop do it.
So $700 is a good price IMO even after paying $$$ for tuning.
