theres a CLEAN marron 5-speed 1985 supra V-6 with 160,000 on the clock. good tires, good clutch and brakes, cold ac, heat... idk, just a over-all great driving car.. pulls very strong. the guy wanted 2,200 for it, i watched it for a month and the price dropped to 1,500. so i called him and he said he will take 1,350 at lowest..
the thing is i really want a 240, but i cant afford it quite yet... do you think i should snatch this, drive it untill i have enough for a s14 then sell it for 2,000 or w/e?
does anyone know much about this car that will change my mind? thank you guy so much for any knowledge or, anything! and im sorry, i know this isnt a toyota thread!!!

it's not like 240's are expensive.
If you can't afford one now, maybe its' not the car for you.
Even the newest 240's need work these days, especially since drifting became the rage... 240s are the new Civic as sad as that is...
Chances are good that the Supra (Mk III ya?) is going to need some work in one area or another, it'll probably even out, but I don't tink I'd want a 1985 anything myself. If it's mechanically sound, and you DON'T want to mod it from stock, go for it!
240s require $. Period.
If you want one so bad, then you probably have dreams of drifting or whatever. Ask yourself WHY you want this specific car. Next ask yourself if you'll still want it in 5 years, and where you'd like to see yourself at that point in your life. THEN figure out if it's right for you.
Edit:
85 = MkII ... ick my bad. 161hp (back then)... I'd pass. Not based on the price, just... meh... If I only had 2k to spend, I'd much rather have a Subie beater or something... it's not like you're going to have anything really nice or worthwhile for that cheap.

85 is still the mkII chassis, right? aftermarket for that car is practically non-existant. you might want to keep that in mind when trying to figure out what you want out of the car.

your right they arent really that expensive, but if i was to buy a 240 it would be a nice one with low miles & unmolested, which would be more then 1,300 depending on the deal.
what it really comes down to is i dont have transportation and i dont have money for the car i really want. this car might not be the safest route to hold me off untill i can get a little more cash together for a 240, but i think it would be a very fun car to have for a year or so.
i just dont know how reliable these old cars are.. haha that sounds pretty stupid, cause the 1st thing that comes to my mind is old=breaking down. breaking down=wasting money.
what do you guys think?

I think for that amount of cash, s13 would be a good choice since its relatively cheap and it has lots of potential, but that also requires $$. its ur choice to make. dont let someone else decide for u.

Sounds like you need more $$ for a better car, or newer 240.

I have a MKIII and 240sx. They're completely diffrent cars, but the older supras tend to have more problems.

by the older supra's do you mean the 85's?
and can you share some of the differences?

m engines are heavy as hellllllll, but the car isn't THAT heavy at all. they weigh about ~2,800ish-2,900 lbs if i remember correctly. If you buy it, I'll give you the 5m-ge thats sitting in my cressida ;)

Dont buy it, atleast get a MKIII

yeah mkII is like hobo status.
the only way you'll pull off a mkii is to paint it bright purple, frame to the pavement, Oni kamu and some 15x10 -10s with huge flares.

S13's aren't that much. If you look around, you'll be able to find a really good deal. I was able to find a '91 for $1300. Clean with the rare light blue colored paint. As for my track car... I haven't had many issues with it. They're reliable (especially when it was KA)
