Just out of curiousity what do you guys think is the best 2 way diff.... I searched but coulded find what im looking for. Heres the deal right now I have a 2 way Kaaz and it performs really well but after having it for a year now I am getting sick of the Klunkidiklunk sound it makes.
So if I were to buy a new diff what would you guys suggest. Should I stick with the 2 way or go 1.5 way.
I did hear that the nismo 2way was good and quieter.. so thanks in advance

Well when deciding between 1.5 or 2, is it for street or drift or autox?

2 way will teach you proper throttle control for drifting and also allow more hangtime during drifts.
1.5 way is definitely better for autox and street.
get rid of the clunk clunk with lsd additive.
from what i hear nismo is the quietest.

Nismo is also loud. My friend has one in his car and pretty clunky sound

I think any clutch type diff you get regardless of company is going to clunk! i have a kaaz and my friends have ats detforce/tomie and nismo and every one clunks. If the noise realy bothers you i recomend a helicle diff like quaif or oem s15 silvia.

A guy on the my350z.com forums did an LSD oil test to see what made the LSD quiet down... it took him several months to get to a finnal result.
Motul is the best LSD oil and makes it quieter.... do not expect it to be silent!!

i've driven cars with kaaz's, nismo's, and tomei's, and they all clunk quite loud (the tomei seemed to be the loudest from what i recall though). i personally have a kaaz 2-way and love it, and i just learned to deal with the clunking.

ATS with carbon clutches is the quietest..... Don't expect it to be in the same price range as other diffs either. Also the diff additive is actually detrimental to some diffs. like the nismo uses full syn, why other diffs use dino oil. also you can have your kaaz repacked with more plates, more harsh diff, like running with a spool.

ATS w/ carbon clutches for the win... its just costs as much as my 240sx...
i've got a nismo 2 way but the street version... its pretty quiet but you still hear the occasional klunk noise... but w/ a friction modifier additive... its not a loud klunk noise that makes you think you've snapped your axles...
i use Neo friction modifier additive (from Baker precision) w/ Lucas Heavy Duty 85/140 Gear Oil....

welded diff's don't clunk right? just tire slip?
that maybe a downgrade but would get rid of the clunk... and you would still have a locked diff

With welded, depending on the tire and speed. You will get from a Chuff-Chuff-Chuff to a full squeal. The least of the nuisances with a welded rear. If he doesn't like the clunk, he deff won't like a welded.

With welded you may get a chatter from the rear end while parking, unless the subframe bushings are perfect.

hey man, if you want TOTAL silence get s15 helical LSD. I have one and its totally silent when puttering around town, and lauches likes it possessed. Just slip it in and forget about it, no frequent fluid changes and also its pretty effective on track.
Only down side is that it has a limited torque bias ratio, and if one wheel is in the air, its acts like a open ( but why would you have one wheel in the air anywayz? )

Hey thanks for all of your advice and opinions.. I can deal with the noise and I have for a year, I actually have a civic as a daily driver but I never drive it because I would rather hear the clunk in a nissan than drive a civic.
But it sounds like I need to get some motul diff oil to get it to quiet down a little bit.
With the S15 diff I heard that they give out after extreme driving conditions.
I race and drift at the track and swear by the Kaaz's capabilities but its just I feel like mine is SOO LOUD.. I hate how people can hear it from outside the car and they look at me and say, "hey your car is broken",
then I explain to them that they are a bastard. and its just a 2 way diff.
But thanks alot I will buy some motul oil.:bigok:
