crap in turbo line

yesterday while removing the turbo water lines, a piece or rubber, similar to the black rubber of the front main seal, lodged itself in the line. I was able to remove it with pliers. it was about 1/2'' long and 1/8'' wide. look like it was once part of some sort of seal.

any ideas where it came from? water pump possibly? i don't know where else in the cooling system that uses that sort of black seal material. i don't have any leaks either.
