I'm buying a 97 240sx SE from a buddy of mine, every 240 that i have looked at do not have turbos from the factory, but my friend says his has one,and that it came from the factory like that. would the engine in this car be a SR20Det??? I don't have a clue.

No turbo came on any engine found within the 240sx in north america from the factory. In other markets the S13 (240sx chassis code) is know as the silvia or 180sx (depending on model) and would have come with the CA18det, SR20de, or SR20det engines. Both the CA18det and SR20det are turbo motors and are commonly imported from japan and installed in 240's here in the states, though its not a legal swap since it was never a DOT apporved motor. Howver since the chassis is the same, save for some LHD/RHD issues (and SOHC/DOHC issues on 89-90 models) they can be installed with realtive ease.
The search function will yeild numorous posts about the Sr motor. Welcome to zilvia. Those 97-98 240's are gorgeous. Good luck.
The SR FAQ on heavythrottle.com, 240sx.org, and freshalloy.com are also good resources to look up

like 240 2nr said the sr20det is the only engine besides the ca18det that came from a factory that was turbo. The swap is not leagal but if you do it get a connection that will be willing to pass you on the visual test.I have heard that the sr20det as long as all the compnets such as the cat,and engine are running right it will pass the sniffer test but not the visual test.So if he has a turbo from the factory it could also be a turbo kit that someone left on when they got rid of the car or he could just be full of sh**.
