Legally.

If you keep everything A-Ok with your licence, registration and insurance.

And you have locking hood pins.

And, you were not breaking any laws that qualify as misdemeanors at the time of the stop.

The police officer has to have a warrant to search under your hood, especially if it is locked using locking hood pins.

If he wants to look. Tell Him simply "I do not consent to searches".

Just don't drive like a jackass and you should be fine.

That is 90% of the battle, recirculation is the other 10%. Good Luck. And you can expect great gas mileage if you keep your foot out of the gas...

^^^ These guys are right. It also has a lot to do with where you live. I'm not sure if Northridge is in Ca, but most east coast people don't get any harassment unless you're doing something stupid like not running an exhaust. They pretty much only go for sound violations here.

i've never had any problems with it in florida, and i've been pulled over a lot. one cop even told a friend of mine to stop spending money on turbo's and get his headlight fixed. :)

Unless you're driving with no hood, how would the cop know you had an SR while driving down the street.

On my nearly bone-stock SR, I get consistent 25-26 mpg on about 60/40 hwy/city driving, better mileage then I got on my sohc.

u should be good just about anywhere except cali and hawaii:)
stock: great gas mileage
heavily modified(driving slow),ok gas mileage
(lead foot), worse than mustang 5.0 gas mileage

I can vouch for that, I've owned a mustang (it was a 4.6 but they get about the same gas mileage) and if I'm getting on the throttle all the time with the SR it will chug down gas just about as fast as my mustang did.

stock, you can get great mileage, but as you modify more, it gets significantly worse, now i can only get 24-25 mpg hwy and 16-17 mpg city consistently,

northridge is pretty much a decent area

keep it stock looking, cops won't bother you,
if your car looks like it came from the paul walker school of driving then it'll have a high chance of being pulled over

It's how the car looks. Not the engine inside. If your car is stock looking with an sr than you could drive around forever. Now if you have mods to make your car look anything other than stock than there is a possibility that your hood will be popped if you are pulled over.

as long as you're not being stupid as you drive your car you should be fine with the SR.
it seems like everyone else getting pretty good gas mileage with their SR's. i've only been getting about 16-17mpg mixed driving. and all i did was upgrade the fuel pump and run 3" exhaust all the way through.

The whole driving properly thing isn't true. I know many people, myself included who have been pulled over for driving perfectly.

depending on circumstance, thanks to provisions outlayed for counter-terrorism in quotes, they can still pop your hood.

The best question is.

Relevancy and legality of discovery, when the citation or fine is CARB related.

Could you argue that it was only found due to illegal search? Would it be dealt with the same as drugs/firearms?
