Motor Mounts

Can some one help? I was drifting at and flew into a fence, and my engine is like pushed to the right of the car like 2 inches and my shifter is like tilting to the right also.  I think it's the motor mounts, but i'm not sure how to change them.
Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Check out your chassis. If your engine and shifter are moved, odds are you flarked up your unibody.

I don't think the chassis is damaged. I only scraped the front bumper on the fence. &nbsp;I didn't really hit it, only scraped it. There is not much damaged to the car, the only real damage i see is that the engine is pushed to the right.

if that's the "only" litle iddy bits of damage that you can see, I'm sure it's no problem at all. I mean, it's only the whole engine that's shifted; who knows what position the tranny and the rest of the drivetrane are in!

seriously though, your enging being shifted 2" doesn't sound too good. How you could have done it by 'scraping a fence' is beyond me though. I would have to recommend taking it to a shop to get it professionally looked at.

well, I was going sideways and got too close to the fence on the inside of the turn. when i scraped/hit it, my car spun out and stalled. The reason it stalled is because when the engine was shifted, it yanked apart the vacum hose goin to the brake booster. THere are no major dents on the fenders, almost no damage. the car even ran, all the way home. The only problem is that the shifter is tilted to the right, and since my engine is shifted to the right, the fan is tearing up the shroud. i really don't think it's chassis damage, i just need any tips or instructions on how to change out the motor mounts.

just take it out of fifth lol

your story makes no sense to me and i dont believe you.
but if your really gonna change your mounts, (wich will not help unless your missing one now, and your not),
you have to...

un bolt the mounts from the car,(one bolt on the two sides)
or
unbolt them form the motor,(4 bolts on each side)
and
lift the motor until the motor is free of the chassis
then
swap out the mounts
finally
drop the motor down right, and bolt it back up

of course you have to remove a bunch of crap to get enough room too, but all in all its a bout a 15 minute job.

I'm not sure why I am helping yuo since I am with the anti-drift crowd.... &nbsp;but...

It is entirely possible that you have torn the rubber bushing in the motor mount. &nbsp;It is very common for cars to tear motor mount under side impact. &nbsp;You will see this due to the fact that many mounts are liquid filled (like TC Rods) and are not designed to have lateral movement, they are designed to cradle the motor.

I welcome you to our forum where you can't hurt me, but I don't much like you on my streets.

Now to add, even if your hose didn't rip off, you prolly still would have stalled. Spinning/going backwards in a forward gear will genarally stall an engine.

I don't quite get how taping a fence would have enough force to damage your motor mounts but not damage the body/frame of your car <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':huh:'>

Not that i condone STREET Drifting, but we don't even know the whole situation. &nbsp;I have been drifting before out in the middle of nowhere, and it was on streets! &nbsp;This may be the same situation. &nbsp;Sometimes I feel like my mom is sitting on another PC yelling at other members for doing things that kids do! &nbsp;Stop growing up so damn fast Zilvia.net!

The problem with street drifting is the same reason everyone would be mad at me for honing my Solo I skills by driving a proper apex line across both lanes of traffic. You just don't know what's around the next corner. As empty as you think a road may be there could always be a car coming the other way. At a track, everyone has assumed some risk by being there. On the street I'm not assuming the risk of someone going 75mph around a corner sideways as cool as it looks.

At the same time, most "drifters" who are out honing there skills, generally have no drifting ability at all and are more or less driving out of control as they learn to drift. Yes, real drifters are in pretty good control of their cars. The kids who go out at 75mph, drive off the road and hit a fence were out of control.

they do not do it on purpose, and if they do, they sure as hell aren't gonna win anything. ever watch a race at monaco? obviously not. that track has the tightest, slowest sections of anywhere i'm aware of on the F1 circuit, and i can tell you, i didn't see coultard, either schumacher, montoya, kimi, or anybody else do it.....EVER (at least not the type of drifting the average JDM whore thinks of)

Actually, if you drive up in the mountains/canyons at night, it's a little bit well... safer...only in this way: It's only safer because you can "see" cars around a corner thanks to their headlights. The way it works where I go is if you see headlights you always slow down.

But then again, it's night-time, so your overall visibility sucks. You might be able to see headlights easier, but it's harder to see the road... plus all the little animals come out at night. I almost hit the same fox going up and down a mountain. Actually, almost all F1 drivers use properly controlled oversteer. &nbsp;Are you familiar with active yaw control? &nbsp;It means the inner rear tire spins past it's traction limit, and the car turns faster with less steering input.

They don't get mad initial D 4 wheel drifts with a 60 degree drift, but they do drift.

yes yes, i'm familiar with the technical definition of "drifting," and i'm aware that pretty much every decent racer uses it, hell, even i do. but i'm also aware that 95% of this board doesn't have any idea what the difference is between useful drifting and the tail out jackassery that you see on the vids everybody posts up.

I really would rather drift on a track, but i don'tk now where one is near lousiiana. &nbsp;If anyone can tell me where one is, i'd be glad to pay the extra money to go. &nbsp;after all, money spent on repairs would probally be more significant than paying for using a track.
