I like the "honeycomb" they used to dress up the exhaust:

^^^ agreed. But I can't tell what's going on in the engine bay though. There's so much wires that it's confusing my eyes. Or perhaps because I'm not a mechanic. Either way yes that's what that big ass cover is for I guess.

It's a Lexus...so why does the engine bay look like the cheapest piece I've ever seen? Plastic all around, and then wires, wires, WIRES! These companies really need to start hiring some of the regular guys I see on these boards that clean their engine bay and have all the wires neatly tucked away. Because, whoever told them to put a little cover over it and THAT looks good needs to die.

no no, lets not forget...

that in about 1-2 years, some fucking ASSHOLE company is going to create a turbo or supercharger kit for that over-complex PILE OF SHIT.

seriously, i've already had first hand experience in working on the IS350's lighting system, its fairly complex. i would hate to waste even a minute of life trying to work on the car or diagnose any of the electrical problems it could have.

the headlamp harness ALONE was near 25 pins. compare that to the g35, about 8 pins. The lights turned out nice, but it was a pain in the ASS to fab.

-glenn

Thats right! I was.

Still though, Blitz can easily pass as being one of those asshole companies to come out with some shit like the above for the IS-F.

I mean seriously, unless your name is Dr Octopus, why the fuck would you ever want to own a turbo or supercharged IS-F?

As an honest company, it would be better if HKS, Blitz, APEX, or any of the big boy tuner companies to just say: "listen asshole, you have enough money to buy an IS-F.. thats cool. You want more power? Here's the solution. Sell that fucking piece of shit, and go buy a real car like a... <ferrari/lamborghini/nsx/skyline/corvette/porsche/astonmartin/plane/etc>"

this is like when people take m3's and add all types of useless shit to them, when stock.. they're already badassed. you end up with these show-whore cars that have an extra 10 feet of widebodyness, custom paint, motor work.. nad the car never moves because its a big fucking paperweight.

get a porsche - you win, period. fuck 4 doors.

Wanna know why the engine bay looks like that?

90% of the people who buy that car will be taking it to the dealer for every repair, and will drive it to work while wearing a suit . . .

. . . i highly doubt they will ever open the hood.

I really want one. Seriously want one as a daily driver. Wow, I never knew that the look of the engine factored into a car's value...I don't know if it's just me but I would like to have an engine that worked well instead of looking good.

I dont know why people are referring to the engine as being aesthetically pleasing. Thats what that big plastic cover is for the motor, so they dont have to try and make it tidy underneath it. Who cares what it looks like, I care how it will be to work on. Luckily, I shall never work as a tech again. Woo!

Lets look at the two extremes. Above, is a Ferrari. Most of the mid-engined car's showcase their exposed motors much like a pimp would expose his hoes. Its much like driving around with a badassed girl in your passenger seat, would you hide her?

Now you're gonna say, "but mike, not everyone has a Ferrari or a mid-engined bay car.." right? Wrong. If you have an RB26 motor, it looks great! If you have an SR, it looks really nice! There are a lot of motors that look really good, with well balanced lay-out. Intake on one side, exhaust on other.

Some cars however, are kinda hopeless. Z32 motors, kinda hard to make look nice.. very busy. 3000GT, ugh. VQ motor, well.. still not my cup of tea.

You are arguing a completely invalid point considering every person purchasing this car will not be looking for a bling ass engine bay....... If you DONT buy it because the engine bay isnt pretty then whatevs, it wont hurt Lexus at allll

I see both sides...

On one hand, we are all (well, most) more oriented towards simplicity and performance here on this board.

On another hand, this car caters to people that crave upper class cars, those that will LEASE an M3/M5/760, LS460/LS600, S55/65, Maserati UGLY, ETC...

Most of here on this board all work on our cars. This is why I hate engine covers, and would want something with more presentation, something I could work on, show to my friends, etc.

You know what sucks? When you have an ultra fast, super sedan, and your friends want to see what powers this beast... You lift the hood only to show them a PLASTIC COVER, oil cap (not even a dip stick in sight), manufacturer badge, and the signature stamp from whomever the great soul who hand built this engine... If I built this engine, I want people to see my fucking handy work, I want people to know what gets them from their shitty Malibu home to the office in Century City, and what gets them pussy later that night, not some fucking stupid ass PLASTIC COVER. This is what I got with a MERCEDES BENZ.

Then again, the average soul who is LEASING one of these things usually doesn't work on their car, and will be limited to possibly only buying a blue tooth pocket pussy/vibrator or some kind of ridiculously overpriced titanium exhaust and will proceed to brag about how expensive it was and how useless it is.

This is a pinnacle for Lexus, and is pretty sad with how they've visually engineered the engine bay. I don't care if it's for simplicity on their side, or just plain lazyness, the bay looks like Lindsey Lohan's crotch with all these wires and sensors everywhere.

thats right, spoken like a true professional with wisdom AND experience. One of the few people *I* know, that has driven an AMG S65 for months and thousands of miles, without changing the oil or giving a fuck. A man who never bothered washing that car, and then said "fuckit" and after god knows how long, took it to a fuckin automated carwash. THATS the fuckin BOMB.

Because you know what. If you cant engineer yourself a badassed car with a beautiful engine bay thats worth showing off to your friends, then you're pretty much admitting to yourself, and everyone you know that you're a homo with a vagina who drives pre-built, over-priced, mangina mobiles. insert luxo-sport car of choice here. I'll chose Lexus IS-F.

wootwoot> You are arguing a completely invalid point considering every person purchasing this car will not be looking for a bling ass engine bay....... If you DONT buy it because the engine bay isnt pretty then whatevs, it wont hurt Lexus at allll

I'm not arguing a point, I'm ranting and talking shit. And, compare THIS current gen lexus IS with the last gen, HUGE difference. Compare the old IS with the LAST LAST IS (ie: Corolla GT-S).. well, yeah they're not identical comparisons, but they still are family if you ask me.

Regardless of how you cut it, Lexuses current designs have one target.. and only one target it mind: seriously competing with the likes of Mercedes and BMW. This was completely evident with their new LS460H, having LED headlamps and self-park etc.. its all over-priced gadgetry to take customers from Benz especially, since they're the kings of selling over-priced, over-complex, often-useless shit that rarely works. How do I know? Because glenn had the AMG S65, and because my dad owns 2 Mercedeses.. both of which require great deals of knowledge and maintenance.

OLD technology rules.. and mechanical typically wins over electrical. But if you're cool with electronic steering and brakes, thats fine.. your choice.
