Hey guys....I know a few of you keep up with my existing S14 project...well upon careful consideration, I know that car is far more capable, or will be, than I am as a driver. I have some experience, but want more to keep me from destroying what I have worked on for so long.
So, to protect my time and money invested in the race car, I had an opportunity to buy a 95 S14 SE for cheap and jumped on it. Its a car I can fully swap parts back and forth with the track slut, and not cry over if/when I put it into a wall lol. Plans are to clean it up a little, swap to 5spd, learn more technique on 150hp, use my coils n stuff off the race car while I finish up the other car, and hopefully by that time the real S14 will be ready. This will give me an opportunity to save more money in the long run, finish up the real s14 how I want and properly without cutting corners to *maybe* hit an event this year. With the new S14, I can hit events very soon and will gain lots of expereince without standing to lose out in a big way!
The car itself is pretty clean...running KA-DE, bad auto trans, a few dents here and there but overall pretty clean for the money(~$1000) and like I said, nothing I will cry over if/when I wreck it!!
Heres a few pics, and Ill get more in the day light:

Good call... That's why I bought a piece of shit Hachiroku when I first started drifting/tracking. When I would wipe the rear bumper on a wall I would just duct tape it back on and carry on with my day. It was awesome.

Gavster is one lucky guy. I'm jealous cause it's only once every blue moon to come across a cheap s14. Smart choice in buying the other s14 too. Keep up the good work Gavster and let us know when the slut is finish. +1 for a lucky guy.

very smart move, too many people build cars out of thier skill range and end up putting them into something. this should give you the basic skills/experience that you will need to get a good start on driving the track s14 when its all done.
plus there is nothing more important than seat time, the more you get in before the other car is done the better off you will be.
good luck on everything man, i cant wait for some more updates on your track car

Haha I know Aaron I know, thats what this is for...it gets me out of a build and into a car for now....this weekend I will start the 5 speed swap, and ill being making it ready to drive on the track....welded diff, my stances, my grams and call it a day....all motor ka woo woo. Should be good enough to start on. Im used to sliding around in my last s14, 260whp sr so i know having less power will take getting used to, but skill have have to replace power, which is what i need!
Thanks for the comments guys....yeah it was just too good to pass up. Thats right, 95 SE, rust free...a few dings here and there, just needs a little love to get going....im only going to put the bare minimum to get it going...thats ALL...and you all should be pleased to know, this is my first S chassis that I am keeping the stock motor in, LOL!

Mentally, your plan sounds GREAT.
Realistically, your plan wont work. Why? I'll explain, speaking from experience.
Every car you own, modify, repair and drive.. requires constant tuning. This means, constant R&D, adjustment, and so fourth. The modifications you have planned for the race car, may or may not work as planned.. its life, shit just works this way.
So whether you like it or not, Doush-an's advice (as always), is some of the greatest advice he or I could ever give: drive motherfucker, DRIVE!
Thats the bottom line. Your skills right now (in your words).. suck. Well, no amount of engineering will help that. And, the fancier the car.. the worse off you'll be. Actually, I feel the shittier the car you practice with, the better of a driver you are capable of being. This happens mostly because you have to compensate for your piece of shit car's poor behavior. Examples below:
If your brakes suck, you learn to brake as little as possible. If your tires suck, you learn not to make rash decisions where all of a sudden.. you need traction. If like me, you rip off your turn signal stalk in a fit of rage because your wife doesnt shut her mouth - you learn to signal with a missing turn signal stalk. (Yes, turning on high beams is FUN... its a sight not to be missed).
So lets review, the new_s14 you own.. good. You can drive it, and drive it you shall. The other car, god bless you.. because realistically, it wont see the sight of road anytime soon. Better get used to seeing a paperweight in your garage.. because if the project is to be done right, it should AND will be a while before that car is road-worthy.
I'de be careful how much (if any) money I dump into the current car. I think if anything, the best advice would be to keep it maintained with cost-effective parts.. and just DRIVE THE FUCK OUT OF IT.

Realistically my plan WILL work...ill be ready for NMDD2 here on june 16th and in a car....that puts me WAY ahead of trying to finish my other project in time. I already know what you have said, and its all true...its a less than perfect car, and those issues/points will help me as a driver to improve. This will be the first sub 250whp car Ive had on the track so technique will come into play a lot more. You guys have the right idea...its a good learner and this course of action offers nothing but benefits.
Update...I got a 5 speed and all the parts i need for 150 from a friend...im loving how CHEAP this is coming together for me right now! :bigok:
Also, cmcdougle, I dont WANT to wreck it, but fact is, cars get thrashed drifting, esp when you are learning....me being fairly noobish, I dont want to expose that risk to a car i have been building for a year...id rather destroy a car thats cheap and I have no big attachment to lol. All in all, I hope this car survives!

quit being a PUSSY.
dont WANT to wreck it, but dont NOT want to wreck it. doesnt make sense, does it? yes, it does... i'll further explain:
DONT THINK ABOUT CRASHING YOUR FUCKING CAR(S) and JUST DRIVE.
if its the stock-ish car, who cares... if its the fancy car... who cares! just because the fancy car will have fancy parts, lots of time, money and blood invested into it.. doesnt mean it will work as planned in your mind. there are fancy parts that you buy, and that suck and dont meet expectations. point being? drive it, tune it, build it, and enjoy constantly making those adjustments.. on ANY of the cars, and quit bitching and worrying about fucking it up.
afterall Mr T, if you fuck it up.. you can always FAB up another one. i mean, its obvious your handy.. all you need is a set of matching balls so that you can man-up and really enjoy what you own.
if you DONT do what i say, you're going to lead the rest of your life.. with a vagina in your pants - scared to drive anything because you're afraid of getting fucked.

i call bullshit on that one, aaron. power is a very difficult thing to get used to, especially if youre the type of person that likes squeezing 100% lemon juice out of the lemon.
not a bragging thing, but i'm the type that likes to beat all the power our of any motor or car i've ever owned. NA cars rule in that sense, as FI cars can be a bit unpredictable since they can have more peaky powerbands (obviously).

Gav,
I follow what you are saying. Its a good idea to learn techniques like braking, turning, weight transfer and other like things. Plus its not a car you just put tons of time and money into. I will say that i agree with others as well about the power difference and a NA vs FI vehicle. They are totally different animals. It will take some time to get used to going from your practice car to your beast. Atleast you will have most of the techniques down by then so all you will have to worry about is the power difference.
I suggest for the first few times you go out in the race car, you hit events that have no walls or light post, just cones. Please keep us updates if you build any new stuff or paint the beast. I really like your build man.

congrats on the excellent plan! whileI was building my LS1FC,there were so many events I had to pass on because the car just wasnt complete yet... but if I had a 2nd car with at least some basics done to it so I could have attended events, I would have been much happier and probably learned thru experience/faster what mods the beast car did need and what mods were not necessary.
awesome plan, nice score on the deals and MORE PICS!

Power isn't a huge issue.
Particularly on a nice setup like a 3071 TS.
You just enter earlier and scrub the speed and your back to square one.
PS. never ending story build is gay as fuck.`put the one car on the track and stfu.
