According to some other sources that's not the new Tibby. That car is RWD w/ a V8. It's based off of Hyundia's new Genesis platform. It will directly compete with the G37, Mustang GT, etc. Rumors have it producing 300hp (which is pretty waek for a V8 but eh). Toyota and Nissan need to take their thumb out their ass and compete.

Not bad, but its still a FWD! Wont have the fun factor like our 240's :)

Oh wait...its RWD. I must have really offended some people by making a mistake by thinking it was FWD. Sheesh.

Yea.

I was reading up on Hyundai's RWD car on AutoBlog.

The concept reminded me instantaneously of the VW Scirocco concept car.

Existspeed, your thinking about Hyundai's rwd sedan; the Genesis. I like the specs but car in those pictures it looks too much like the the 2000 eclipse. It also looks heavy as hell.

too soon to determine whether or not it would be worth it, any talk of a price tag?

too soon to determine whether or not it would be worth it, any talk of a price tag?

They are claiming the V8 RWD version will be "well below" $30,000.

And in case some of you guys that kepp saying "it's still a hyundia" take a look at where Hyundia's are rating in customer satisfaction, realiabilty, and value right now. They are snappin and there's no way around it. And don't forget, 30 years ago people were saying, "It's still and Honda/Toyota."

I'm not saying they are up to either Toyota's or Honda's level yet, but I'm not going to count them out before the bell even rings.

Honda or Toyota aren't going to deliver a product like this. This car being someone most Zilvian's have been begging for for years. Inexpensive/RWD/powerful. Only thing it will most likely not deliver on is weight, but that's the nature of the industry right now. Better take what we can get.

it doesnt look too bad. i think it looks like a lexus vw mix from the front. i think toyota needs to come out with rwd sports coupe. toyota can build themselves some good cars. but they're felling behind in the sports car category. but hyundai is coming up. slowly but surely.

Hyundai Steps up to the plate.

and gets hit with the ball... :keke:

But seriously, I'm all for a HP competition no matter who it is. Question is, will it be a solid car? To me Hyundai's have always been disposable cars right up there with KIA, but slightly better.

I believe theres a big opportunity right now for the "lower" car companies to start pushing buttons in the market as most established car companies are becoming bland and a bit overdone. Losing track of the grassroot performance that started it all and moving to numb boaty feeling big conservative sedans. I think theres a good opening for them to push into the lower level sport compact market.

I'm not saying they are up to either Toyota's or Honda's level yet, but I'm not going to count them out before the bell even rings.

you may not, but J.D. Power & Assoc. did. they beat Honda and tied Toyota in initial quality; and tied honda and beat toyota in design. Hyundai has been making some pretty good cars lately, the quality rankings say so and Car & Driver has regularly been giving them high marks too.

i think by the time i'm ready to buy a new car, i'll be out of this price class, but i'm certainly not writing it off.

thought the 2010 tib was suppose to be v8 and v6 ?

why is there a turbo 4 banger in it ?

Baka Sama
05-10-2007, 04:45 PM
Look at the B pillar and the rear fenders. That test mule and that rendering are identical.

I know. I posted a better image of the same car. I never read it would be a v8 though. I only read that the Hyundai sedan (Genesis) would be a V8.

FUTURE Driven" Hyundai will abandoning front-wheel drive for its next Tiburon

Due to be unveiled towards the end of 2007 before a local debut the following year, the rear-wheel drive coupe will be a "serious sports car", according to a senior Hyundai Motor Company executive.

Although details are scant, it is believed the Tiburon replacement will be a three-door coupe featuring many of the styling cues as well as the general proportions displayed on the HCD-8 Concept Car, which made its global debut at the 2004 Detroit motor show and has since appeared in Melbourne.

The HCD-8, as it stands, is powered by a supercharged version of a current 2.7-litre DOHC V6 with a six-speed manual gearbox.

However, variations of Hyundai's new-generation 3.3 and 3.8-litre V6 engines are expected to debut in the 2+2 seater sports car, with the latter one likely to be the range-topper.

"Yes, we are developing rear-wheel drive for the next sports car," was the surprising response from Hyun Soon Lee, Executive Senior Vice President for Hyundai Motor Corporation.

This remark came after a suggestion from the gathered press at the opening of the 2005 Seoul motor show in South Korea that the company seek the passionate sports car route to increase its global youth appeal, rather than simply focus on quality.

Mr Lee's remark even caught out other Hyundai executives.

It is a surprising development for a model that started out as the very unsporty two-door derivation of the front-wheel drive Hyundai X2 Excel of 1990 called the S-Coupe.

That car's predecessor jumped up to the 1995 J2 Lantra platform to become the SX, FX and SFX Coupe until the current, sharper - but still front-wheel drive - Tiburon came into the fray in 2002.

A rear-wheel drive sports car is in line with Hyundai's desire to push its vehicles further upmarket.

Such a model willl probably share many components with a rear-wheel drive sedan in much the same way that Nissan's 350Z has spawned a range of mostly-US market Infinity products such as the G35.

There has been speculation for some time that Hyundai was considering releasing a luxury line of vehicles above the current, Sonata-derived Grandeur - which has just had a complete makeover and is the star of Hyundai's stand at Seoul.

Adding further credence to Hyundai's sports image push is its re-entry into the World Rally Championship from 2008.

The company says it will field an all-wheel drive "sports car" very loosely derived from the yet-to-be released Accent replacement, the front-wheel drive MC4 small car.

What I pulled from the original site:

There's not going to be a V8. Base engine is the 2.0-L turbo four with 230 hp, top engine is a 300 hp Lambda II V6. Six-speed manual with both engines. And of course, RWD. Should be on-sale next summer.

Pricing should start at $20K for the turbo, and run under $30K for a loaded V6.

Its not surprizing that Hyundai is stepping up. A lot of the engineering force from Nissan in Los Angeles did not want to relocate to Tennessee. So what happened? A lot of them got picked up by the other manufacturers in Socal. Kia, Mazda, Toyota, and yes...Hyundai as well. I forgot where I read but from what I remember it was something like 70% of the force did not want to move.....I'll see if I can find it.

If this is all true and it looks like those renderings of the black car....I'll probably be driving one of these in a few years.

I actually like it and I always hated Hyundai. Go figure.

Maybe it's the turbo-i4 and a $20k price tag.

Dope. I was going by what Autoblog was reporting, but this makes me even happier. Our first Turbo RWD Coupe in what...12 years+. Hyundia is seeing the light.

I'd rock a $23k Hyundia Coupe turbo!

If Hyundia does this they win buku points in my book. They essentially be offering the purest form of a sports car we have in that price range.

Fuck it...I'd hop all over it.

I wonder if Nissan is listening?

I remember when this happened to the RX-8's. But I still think that Hyundai is headed in the right direction. In Korea they got some nice Hyundai's I never understood why they only brought out the crap here? But it looks like they will be growing with the market that hasn't existed in the last few years, well with brand new cars anyway. A+ for the effort regardless if the car is crap or not.

I wonder if this is the same 4B11 engine that's going into the next EVO X...Hyundai is part of the GEMA along with Mitsubisihi and Daihlmer Chyrsler. That would be really interesting. Any 4B variant engine is part of GEMA. Any thoughts?!?

Like major styling cues on that car are just straight up unoriginal to the point of obvious. That constitutes a fail in my book. Nice try Hyundai but come up with something more original less ugly. At least if you were ripping off your own heritage it would be cool. Though your just stealing other designs blatantly.

dont worry dave, its because the workers at companies like mitsubishi and hyundai, are really just fat fucks sitting behind a computer.. stealing ideas from other cars listed online in google images.

fucking fat kids. need to be more original and quit stealing shit, fat fucks.

ps: yes, i agree.. the eclipse and the tiburon have always had a lot in common, fwd v6 poopers. i recall back in the day, i sold lights for both of those cars. quickest product line ive ever AXED off the site. the majority of customers were dopey 18 year olds doing stupid SHOW shit to their cars.
