my racing buddies cousin got rear ended, so he's selling his SE-r because he already has another one. the rear bumper is f'd, and there are probably a couple of other associated problems. anyway, i'm not really concerned with the intricacies of the crash, i just wanna know what the common problems associated with this car are, as in, what to look for when i go to take a look at it in the next couple of days. the plan would be to store the 240 in the winter, and drive the SE-r instead. if i drive the 240, i have to buy new wheels/tires for winter anyway, so that's some money i'd "save." not to mention the lower insurance when the 240 is in storage, and i wouldn't have to have collision coverage either. another possibility would be to turn this into an IT car in the next year or so. i just found out today, but it seems like a good idea, not to mention he's got TSW Hockenheim R's and Intrax springs. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

excuse me if my grammer is off, some kid hit me in the head with a mag-lite last night resulting in 26 stitches, so i'm a bit off today.

EDIT: lawrence i'm sure you got something to say on this one, don't ya?

I would look for sagging doors. Not a big deal but is sometimes annoying. It is also pretty common on that year.

Otherwise the usual, i.e. rust, high miles etc.

I'd think the Se-R would make a great winter beater, but I think it's ability as an IT car is limited.

First, I really like those things and all account's I've heard is that they are a damb fun little car. &nbsp; They kick hiney in autox, LSD rocks, good power, smart looks, and great handling.

As an IT car, they get killed! &nbsp;ITS. &nbsp;Home of FC's, 240s (sx & z), and 325's. &nbsp;I know a few guys running them as IT cars out here. &nbsp;Good mid-pack performance, but they seem to be besieged w/ problems (lot's of DNF's) and they just don't have enough juice to keep w/ the fast cars in the class.

I know a few of the guys at H-T (comp) own them and could probably elaborate on what to look out for (if there's nothing at the Se-R site).

mho: good car to own for the winter - especially if you could sell it for about what you are paying. &nbsp;Outside that, the utility is reduced.

Be on the look out for torn CV boots, leaking oil pressure switch, leaking power steering, and leaking front cover.

That's about it really... it's an SR20, so it's extreemly reliable.

You'll want to look for all the normal stuff... you know, belts, tires, brakes, Struts/Springs... but that's it really. &nbsp;Great winter car choice.

If it were my car, I'd put a Ground Control coil over suspension on it and an SMC short shifter... install the Energy Suspension full bushing kit and call it a day. &nbsp; You could never do another thing to it and these simple mods would make it a joy to drive.

thanks guys. if it seems to be in good shape mechanically, i'll probably make an offer on it.

mark -
i never looked up it's class in IT, it was just a thought. and you're definitley right, those 325's and FC's would rock it's world.
