Every weekend in my local area there is a dirt track racing series me and my family go to. Though its only a circle dirt track, there is alot of action and its alot of fun to watch.
The classes they have are;
600cc Midgets
750ss Midgets
Trucks

The 600cc use racing motorcycle engines like, Honda F6, Yamaha R6, ect. These engine are built to the extreme and most use higher tech electronics than your 240's unless you have a full standalone ECU. But you get the idea...these things are fast.

Lot of you probably have either seen this type of racing or at least know whats its like. Not drifting but they are sliding sideways most of the way around the track.

I opted to go into the truck class. Mostly a money and experience deal. The trucks cost less to start with and cost alot less to maintain than the midgets.

Last night I picked it up and I'm extremely excited. As far as modifications no aftermarket speed equipment, including engine parts, are allowed with the exception of shocks, springs, carburetor, and steering wheel. Stock intake manifold may be modified to allow fit of carburetor. No coilovers are allowed.
All glass and combustible material must be removed (door panels, padded dash, headlights, taillights, plastic grills, trim, moldings, chrome, etc.)
Brakes must be OEM.
A max of 4 cylinder, 2.0 liters, SOHC only no DOHC, no fuel injection, no turbo chargers or turbo engines, no diesel engines allowed, must have a fuel cell, Drivetrain and suspension must be OEM and in OEM locations. There is more rules but thats the basics.

Though the rules say OEM drivetrain, most weld the diff. Mine is also welded.
I dont know much about carbs. yet but mine has a big carb. and a huge air breather.

I'm pretty excited about it. Though I know most will say circle track racing is stupid but the way I see it, its seat time. The more seat time you have, even if its not drifting or road course, its still seat time. I believe the more practice you have at any performance driving the better you'll get at whatever racing you do.

So here is a couple quick pics I took today.

Discuss.

Also to add, I spend the summer in Kansas, and the winter in Cali. Since there isn't much drifting events in Kansas or anywhere within 400 miles so this will give me some racing to do during the late spring thur early fall in Kansas and in the late fall thur early spring in Cali I'll be drifting out in Cali.

I'll try to take some engine pics tomorrow but I'm not sure as far as year of the engine but it has a 2.0 Ford Ranger engine with 4 speed tranny.
The truck or I should say frame (thats the only thing original on the truck) was a '82 Ford Courier.
The Courier pickup ran from '72 to '82. It was discontinued in North America with the introduction of the Ford Ranger, though it continues in Australia and New Zealand as a badge-engineered version of the Mazda B-Series. It is currently built in Thailand. '83 was the first year of the Ranger.
It has no power steering or alternator. Dont run it long enough to need a alternator. I'm going to free up some power by taking the clutch fan off and put a e-fan. I dont know alot about the engine yet since of my past cars are all fuel injected.

looks like fun. how much does that truck cost?

I bought mine for $2,800 just like it is. Though I knew the starter was weak when I bought it, I found out today it needs a new starter but thats no big deal. Easy to change (2 minutes) and probably cheap for a rebuilt one.
Most of these trucks go from $2,000-$3,500, fully built like this one.
This truck won the points championship last year.
I almost bought a different one but it sold just before I called the guy to tell him I was going to buy it but I think I like this one better anyways. The other one sold for $3,500.
The truck has probably about $5,000 invested in it but like anything, you never get that much out of it.
It also came with 8 wheels, 10 tires, couple spare blocks, tons of spare parts (no extra starter though).
The great thing about the trucks is they are safe and its no big deal if you bump into someone. As you can see the truck as many battle scars. After I get some more experience I'm going to put all new sheet metal on in and paint it up.

This is not Nissan Related. Cool new vehicle, but it doesn't belong in Chat.

My bad ThatGuy. I forgot about the Nissan Related only thing.

Ok I'll give you a little history about the Courier.

Ford used the Courier name for 4 vehicle lines.
1952-1958 American utility van
1991–2002 European van bronco
1998–present Brazilian pickup
1972-1982 American pickup and 1972–2006 Australian and New Zealand pick-up (rebadged Mazda B-Series)

In North America, Australia and New Zealand, the Courier was a compact pick-up built by Mazda which dated from the 1970s. It was discontinued in North America with the introduction of the Ford Ranger, though it continues in Australia and New Zealand as a badge-engineered version of the Mazda B-Series. It is currently built in Thailand.

Confusingly, the same Ford Courier is now called the Ford Ranger in every other market outside North America, and will include Australia and New Zealand as well by 2007. It is still unrelated to the American Ranger.

The white one in the pic above is the present (2002 and up) Brazilian model I believe.

Mine started out as something close to this. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/show_image.pl?bg=FFFFFF&image=http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/6/web/2346000-2346999/2346802_14_full.jpg

Going down to the shop right now to take a couple more pics.

Oh my God...
I took it out to one of the local tracks (had permission) tonight and did a little practice...oh my God its amazing!
So much fun. I cant wait til sat. to race even more now.

I'm glad we went out because we're having some sorta ignition or fuel problem. Not all but some of the time it sputters and cuts out. The battery was weak and as stated before, they run without alternators. So it might have of had enough battery power. We're going to work on it tomorrow and see what we can figure out then do more testing tomorrow at the track. Hopefully we can get it running good for saturday night.

The series we go to is called Jayhusker. Jay>Jayhawks-Husker>Corn Huskers. The reason being is we race in Kansas and Nebraska. From week to week we race at a different track each week. A total of 5 tracks. It makes it alot of fun because each track is different. Some more bank, some tighter corners, some longs straights, some long tracks, ect. Instead of the same track every week.
