FirstPlease keep in mind a have a '96 s14
Ok. I have 2 rattles that annoy the #### out of me.
rattle, is a rattle that is comming from the trunk.
It seems that the trunk latch is a little too long, and the trunk doesn't make a good seal. Thru driving over bumps, the trunk makes clicking noises that bother me.
Then.
I have a rear deck problem. I dont know what it is, and dont know why, but it only rattles when my subs are hitting. So I need to get rid of it.
If you know how to fix these noises, or have them yourself, please post.

well as far as the subs are concerned: do you leave the rear seat open to the trunk? if you do, then the reason they rattle is because they dont have the seat up to support them and keep them in place. if not, then all i can suggest is dyno mat..or that spray from rockford.
i actually bassed my trunk latch to death...so now i cant open the trunk with the lever next to the seat..i have to use a key. if anyone knows how to fix that as well please email me, or post something here.

No. I leave the seat up during normal driving conditions.

okay, to adjust the latch, just remove 1 or 2 screws holding it on, and move the latch down a touch.
silk: you (or your subs) have probably just disabled the trunk release. its an anti-theft mechanism. just go to the trunk latch, and look for a little handle about a half inch long. it moves up and down. this enables/disables the trunk release handle.

Wow I'm so glad I searched for this, I've had a broken trunk cable since I bought my car a year ago, just though it was broken so I lived w/ it and my rear deck cover rattles but I found out how to fix that in another thread as far as trunk rattle goes, I did this on my first s14, if you go to Nissan and buy all the little rubber stopper things that should cure 80-90% of the trunk rattle and/or adjusting the latch. I didn’t adjust the latch and didn’t have a problem.

What the other guy said. Adjust the latch, that way it holds tighter when closed.
Since we are on the topic of trunk rattles. I just found that the stand that the jack sits in can come loose and create a small but annoying noise as well. If you open your trunk and move the carpet you will see that there are 2 or 3 10mm bolts I had to use a long socket for one nut. I tightened mine and the noise went away. The funny thing was that the noise sounded like it was coming from the top of the strut tower. Anyways just another thing to check. Good luck.

I had a horrible rattle in the trunk of my s13. I don't know what s14s use, but the s13 trunk springs are two slender torsion bars that cross each other. They used to have a plastic clip to hold them together and prevent them from rattling against each other, but mine broke and drove me crazy. Luckily, I found most of the clip and ziptied the clip to the bars, and now, no more rattles.

i have the same problem right now. ever since i switched my trunk lid out. i cant seem to get rid of the rattle. even lowering the latch didnt do anything. any other suggestions?
hot glue some rubber hose to the body, where the trunk contacts. You can tell where this is since the paint is a little worn there. Not that it would last long but it works for me.

Stupid idea, but have you checked if your license plate is secured completely? I know mine rattles right now, but thats because I don't have a holder and only using the top 2 screws at the moment.

It doesn't matter that he brought it back from the dead. He had a valid question and it related to this thread so he asked in it.
You could go buy some dynamat or second skin or some other type of sound deadening and apply it to the trunk area.
